Russian Vitaly Petrov of Renault was given a five-place grid penalty, and a reprimand, for driving into Michael Schumacher's Mercedes during Sunday's Korean Grand Prix.
The penalty will be served at the inaugural Indian Grand Prix later this month.
Petrov was in a slipstream battle with Spaniard Fernando Alonso of Ferrari down the long straight into turn three on lap 16 when he arrived too fast at the corner.
Alonso took avoiding action, but Petrov drove into the back of Schumacher, taking both men out of the race with damaged cars.
