He tries his luck from miles out and manages to find the top corner. Absolutely no chance for Mendy as this nestles into the back of the net. With that spectacular strike, he officially becomes France's outright all-time top scorer with 58 goals!

90 5' Mbaye pulls one back for Senegal! The teenager shimmies past Hernandez before smashing a fierce effort towards the near post. Maignan gets his hand to it, but the sheer pace of the strike carries it away from him. The France goalkeeper really could have done much better there.

88' Late reshuffle for both sides! Rayan Cherki comes on for Desire Doue to see out the match for France, while Pathe Cisse replaces the exhausted Idrissa Gueye in Senegal's final change. Wow-eight minutes of added time signaled! Plenty of time left for some late drama in East Rutherford.

81' GOAL! FRANCE DOUBLE THEIR LEAD! Talk about an inspired substitution! Bradley Barcola has only been on the pitch for a matter of minutes. Rabiot drives forward into Senegal territory and slides a perfectly weighted pass to the winger. Barcola takes one touch to settle himself, then coolly dinks it over Mendy! 

75' Double change from Senegal as they chase an equaliser! Camara and Sarr are off in the attacking unit. Diarra and Mbaye enter the fray to replace them. 

69' Jackson scores, but he is offside! Almost an instant response from Senegal. He gets in behind down the right, and whacks a superb finish past Maignan at his near post, but the linesman's flag is up instantly. No goal!

66' GOAL! Mbappe breaks the deadlock! Olise plays a pinpoint through-ball into the path of his skipper, who makes no mistake this time and toe-pokes the ball past Mendy. With that strike, Mbappe becomes France's joint all-time top-scorer with 57 goals, moving level with Olivier Giroud!

60' No penalty! Mbappe goes down inside the box after a late lunge from Sadio Mane. Alireza tells Mbappe to get up. However, the referee goes to VAR monitor for a quick check. After multiple reviews, he concludes that the contact wasn't enough. No Penlaty! Mbappe looks disappointed!

57' Double save from Mendy! First Olise, now Mbappe! France are causing all sorts of problems for Senegal in this second half. Mendy thwarts Olise's left-footed effort, before reacting brilliantly to save the follow-up from Mbappe to keep the score at 0-0.

Chance for Doue! First chance of the half falls to Doue as Saliba plays it long to the winger. He turns, gets on his left and opens up the angle, but his effort is wide. No real threat to Mendy's goal!

46' We are back underway! Senegal take the kick-off to get the second half started. France already have a throw-in deep inside their own half.

Ismaila Sarr blazes his effort over the crossbar! And that's half-time! That was an absolute sitter, but somehow we still go into the break at 0-0. France are dominating possession, but it's Senegal who have had the better chances in the first 45. Still no shots on target for France!

44' Six minutes of stoppage time have been added to the first half. Interestingly, Mbappe has had the fewest touches of any player on the pitch in this opening 45 minutes. Both teams have had their moments, but Senegal came the closest to opening the scoring.

40' The referee plays a good advantage as Sarr is fouled by Upamecano. Mane picks up the loose ball and takes a shot, but it is straight at Maignan. Senegal's fans are furious that play wasn't pulled back for a free kick after that missed chance-the referee is getting heavily booed here!

26' Another half-chance for Senegal! Jackson wins the ball high up the pitch again and it lands in the path of Sarr. However, the ball bobbles just as he tries to take a shot, causing him to lose his balance. Senegal are enjoying plenty of the ball after the hydration break! They have had the better chances so far, while France, on the other hand, are yet to register a shot on target.

25' Restart after hydration break! Dembele earns a free kick! Again, Mbappe is a bit sloppy on the ball. Luckily for him, Dembele helps recover it but gets fouled in the process. Mbappe is really struggling to find any rhythm!

23' Jackson hits the post! Diouf dispossesses Mbappe and releases Jackson. The Senegal striker outpaces Upamecano before unleashing a shot that hits the bottom of the right post. It comes back off the woodwork and deflects off Maignan's back for a corner. Best chance of the match so far!

17' It's a corner for France! Kounde does well to force that ball out off Diouf for France's first corner of the match. The 1998 and 2018 champions, however, fail to make the most of the set piece.

12' France patiently work the ball out towards Doue! He cuts inside before laying the ball off to Dembele, who then plays a brilliant through ball into Mbappe's path. However, the France captain's poor touch allows Senegal to clear the danger.

7' Sarr was played in there! However, he is unable to test Maignan as Upamecano does just enough to block the effort before France clear their lines. A very bright start here for Senegal!

1' We are underway in East Rutherford! Senegal have won an early corner after Hernandez put Diouf's cross behind to avert the danger.

Cameras are out in the stands as the fans await the arrival of the players for the national anthems. The New York New Jersey Stadium looks packed to capacity. Inside the tunnel, Mbappe and Koulibaly are greeting the mascots as they prepare to lead their teams out onto the pitch.

Kylian Mbappe will lead the line for France, with Ousmane Dembele and Desire Doue on the wings. Michael Olise starts just behind the striker, while Adrien Rabiot and Aurelien Tchouameni form a double midfield pivot for Les Bleus. In defense, Dayot Upamecano, Jules Kounde, William Saliba, and Theo Hernandez make up the back four, with Mike Maignan starting in goal.

A front trio of Mane, Jackson, and Sarr leads the attack. Nicolas Jackson will start through the middle, with Ismaila Sarr and Sadio Mane on the right and left wings, respectively. Lamine Camara and the two Gueyes (Idrissa and Pape) will line up in the midfield. Meanwhile, Krepin Diatta, Kalidou Koulibaly, Moussa Niakhate, and Mory Diouf will form the defensive line guarding Edouard Mendy's goal.

Former Bengaluru FC coach Ashley Westwood has backed France to win the World Cup.

"You can't look past France. The attacking power they possess is incredible. They have goals, pace and quality all across the front line," said Westwood.

Senegal will aim to leave this year's Africa Cup of Nations controversy behind with a shock win over France, the finalists of the last two World Cup editions. The Lions of Teranga originally beat Morocco 1-0 in the AFCON final, only to have the Atlas Lions subsequently awarded a 3-0 forfeit win by CAF's governing body, because the Senegalese players walked off the field for 14 minutes during stoppage time in protest of a penalty kick awarded to their opponent.

Deschamps is set to retire this summer after 14 years in charge of Les Blues. The match against Senegal will be his 20th as a World Cup coach, five shy of Helmut Schon's record with West Germany.

France head coach Didier Deschamps dismissed that the side is in a mood for revenge against Senegal, who beat them 1-0 during the 2002 FIFA World Cup. 

Deschamps has expressed that "there is no revenge in football", pointing out that most of the players in the squad were not even born to witness their shocking loss 24 years ago.

France captain Kylian Mbappe has been under immense focus in the lead up to the tournament after a goalless run with Les Blues. He will be aiming to lead a strong impression and silence his doubters. The Real Madrid striker is also just a single goal away from tying the French national team's all-time scoring record (Oliver Giround: 57).
