A major controversy has erupted after Paraguay senator Celeste Amarilla allegedly posted racist remarks targeting France captain Kylian Mbappé following France's World Cup win over Paraguay. French prosecutors have opened an investigation after a complaint by the French Football Federation, while Mbappé called Amarilla "unworthy" of public office. Amarilla has rejected France's legal action, threatened to sue Mbappé unless he apologises, and admitted regretting some of her remarks. The row comes ahead of France's World Cup quarterfinal.
