Lamine Yamal grabbed the early headlines by scoring the first goal, but Mikel Oyarzabal was arguably the 'Player of the Match'. He became the quickest player in World Cup history to record two goals and an assist in a single match, doing so in just 24 minutes today.

FULL TIME! SPAIN WIN! First win of FIFA World Cup 2026 for Spain. A comprehensive victory for Spain, who finally live up to their tag of favourites and put in a superb display in Atlanta. The game was buried in the first half itself, but Spain added another goal in the second half, and could've scored more had it not been for poor finishing and offsides.

Ferran Torres scores with a tap-in after a lovely cross in from the right flank. But hang on, a long VAR check is taking place, looks like Ferran was in an offside position. And it is ruled out for OFFSIDE! The check goes on for nearly three or four minutes, but ultimately Ferran was deemed to be offside. A very tight call. The crowd boos as the decision is announced by the referee.

Spain build-up from the left as Nico Williams drives forward and then delivers a cross into the box. Ferran Torres was arriving, but it's defender Hassan Altambakti who got the final touch. But it ended up going goalwards, and the keeper had to make a diving save to prevent it from going in. Nearly a second own-goal for Altambakti!

Final change for Spain: Pedri is taken off for Fabian Ruiz. Luis de la Fuente choosing to rest his midfield gem at the 70-minute mark. A tidy game for Pedri, who kept it neat and tidy in the middle of the park, and kept the game ticking alongside Rodri. Looks like de la Fuente's has found the midfield balanced he was looking for.

The speed of the match has reduced in the second half, with Spain clearly taking their foot of the gas. They're still in complete control of the match and have not let Saudi Arabia get a single chance, but the intensity in their attack and pressing has reduced. Let's see if it changes after the second hydration break.

A lovely ball forward from to sent Ferran Torres through on goal, but the Spain substitutes wastes the chance despite being 1v1 with the goalkeeper. A great run but a wayward finish from Ferran, who ends up sidefooting it well off target.

Alex Baena and Dani Olmo are off, Nico Williams and Mikel Merino come on. Luis de la Fuente makes two more changes in attack, and now the entire front four that started the match has been taken off. What can Nico Williams do then? When fit, he is usually a guaranteed starter for Spain on the left wing.

GOOOAAALLL! Spain score right after half-time! Alex Baena whips in a corner from the left, Ferran Torres flicks it on, Cucurella volleys it at the back post and it goes in after a deflection off a Saudi Arabia player! It will count as an own-goal for Hassan Altambakti.

Lamine Yamal has become the second-youngest player in FIFA World Cup history to score the opening goal of a match. The youngest? Brazil icon Pele himself, who did so as a 17-year-old in the 1958 edition.

We are back! Lamine Yamal has been SUBSTITUTED by Luis de la Fuente, Yeremy Pino has come on in his place. Spain likely choosing to protect their star man, who is still recovering from his hamstring injury. Mikel Oyarzabal, who scored two goals in the first half, has also been taken off. Ferran Torres comes on.

Lamine Yamal has made a great impact, but there's a chance he may be substituted at half-time. Yamal is still not 100% fit, and with Spain 3-0 up, Luis de la Fuente may choose to protect his most decisive player. 

Luis de la Fuente made four changes to Spain's starting XI from the previous game, and safe to say, the changes have worked a treat. Dani Olmo has been direct and decisive in attacking midfield, linking up brilliantly with the likes of Oyarzabal and Yamal. Porro has added attacking prowess too, while Baena has played a clever role on the left wing, often dropping into the midfield. 71% possession, 17 shots, 5 on target, 3 goals - it has been a bloodbath in Atlanta.

HALF TIME! End of a dominant first half for Spain, who have finally shown why they're considered as one of the World Cup favourites. Lamine Yamal scored just 10 minutes into his first World Cup start. Mikel Oyarzabal made it two in the 21st minute, and then tripled Spain's lead in the 24th minute. Saudi Arabia have been hapless, and Spain could've scored even more. Oyarzabal missed out on a hattrick narrowly, being denied by the crossbar.

Lamine Yamal not only making an impact in the forward line, but also tracking back to stop a Saudi Arabia counter-attack. Saudi Arabia were through on their left wing after a lovely piece of skill in the midfield, but Yamal charged back to tackle and clear.

Beautiful football from Spain as Oyarzabal is sent through once again after a lovely flick from Pedri. A Saudi defender steps in at first, but the rebound falls to Oyarzabal again, who shoots firmly with his left foot but fires it off target.

Oyarzabal denied his hattrick by the crossbar! He attempts a cheeky left-footed trivela on a rebound, but the shot hits the crossbar. The woodwork comes to Saudi Arabia's rescue for the time being.

GOOOAAALLL! Two goals in three minutes for Spain! They're running riot in Atlanta, the Saudi Arabia defence cannot stop this rampage. It's a lovely team goal. Pedro Porro with a cross from the right, headed down by an overlapping Marc Cucurella in the box, then it's another flick-on header by Dani Olmo, and Mikel Oyarzabal scores with a tap-in!

GOOOAALLLL! 2-0 SPAIN! The corner is headed out, Olmo shoots it on the rebound, which is defended again. The ball floats into the air, Laporte heads it down, and Oyarzabal pounces on the loose ball to make it 2-0! After the disappointment of the first game, Oyarzabal is on the scoresheet.

Mikel Oyarzabal is sent through on the left wing and he was lining up a shot, but a brilliant slide tackle denies him. The ball goes out for a corner, but Spain are knocking on the door for another goal.

Unfortunately for Yamal, he is also Spain's second-youngest goalscorer in FIFA World Cup history, missing out on the record to Barcelona teammate Gavi, much like the youngest World Cup starter record.

GOOOAAAALLLL! Lamine Yamal scores his first FIFA World Cup goal! A lovely, powerful, low cross from the left wing from Mikel Oyarzabal, Lamine Yamal arrives at the far post and taps it in! Spain end a run of 294 minutes without a goal in the World Cup.

Lamine Yamal is in the heat of the action once again. He sways past a defender and takes a curling long-range shot from outside the box, and it goes just over the bar! Spain have made an intense start to the match. So far, the Saudi Arabia defence has held on.

We are not even two whole minutes into the match but Spain have already registered their first shot. A diagonal ball finds Alex Baena in space on the left wing. He cuts in and takes a shot, but the Saudi defence close in well and block the danger.

KICK OFF! We are underway in Atlanta, and Lamine Yamal is on the ball straight away. Yamal cuts in from the right, shakes of a defender and fires in a cross, but it's ultimately cleared away by Saudi Arabia. Instant danger created by Yamal.

Lamine Yamal has narrowly missed out on being Spain's youngest-ever starter at the FIFA World Cup. At 18 years and 343 days old, Yamal becomes Spain's second-youngest World Cup starter. The record is held by Barcelona teammate Gavi, who was 18 years and 110 days old when he made his first World Cup start in 2022.

Looks like a young Lamine Yamal fan, who looks almost exactly like him, will be in attendance during Spain's match against Saudi Arabia. The image of the Lamine Yamal lookalike has gone viral on social media.

We are just about half an hour away from the start of the FIFA World Cup 2026 match between Spain and Saudi Arabia. All eyes on Lamine Yamal, who is set to make his first start of the World Cup. Will he be able to give Spain the creative spark that they were lacking in their previous match? 

Saudi Arabia's sensational 2-1 win over Argentina in the 2022 World Cup is undoubtedly their greatest-ever result in the tournament's history. What makes that win even more special is that it was Argentina's only defeat of the entire campaign. Saudi Arabia will take inspiration from that match and hope to pull off a similar upset against yet another World Cup favourite today.

The number of changes made by Luis de la Fuente also emphasizes the need for Spain to win today's match against Saudi Arabia. A 0-0 draw against Cape Verde was a very unexpected result, and they need to secure three points today before a tough contest against Uruguay in their final group game.

Spain and Saudi Arabia have faced off three times in the past in international football, and the historic head-to-head advantage is totally in favour of Spain. Spain have won all three of their previous meetings.

The two nations are playing in the World Cup after 20 years. Spain won 1-0 in their last meeting in the 2006 edition.

Four attacking changes made by Luis de la Fuente to Spain's starting XI. Pedro Porro is more direct offensive threat compared to Marcos Llorente at right-back. Dani Olmo replaces Fabian Ruiz, and is likely to play as a No. 10, with Pedri and Rodri in the pivot. Alex Baena replaces Gavi on the left-wing, while Yamal being handed the start shows that Spain are clearly looking for the urgency and creativity that was missing in the Cape Verde game.
