Canada have secured their first-ever point at a FIFA World Cup. After six defeats in six games in previous editions, Canada have secured their first point with the draw against Bosnia and Herzegovina. A special moment too, doing it on home soil, in front of a passionate Toronto crowd. 

It is no less than they deserve. Canada missed a few big chances in the first half, but they created far more chances than Bosnia and Herzegovina did, and ultimately got the reward as Cyle Larin scored.

FULL TIME! A dramatic game comes to an end in Toronto, and co-hosts Canada and Bosnia and Herzegovina walk away with a point each. Canada found the equalizer they were desperately hoping for in the second half, as Cyle Larin made an instant impact off the bench. A number of heroic clearances and tackles in the second half from Bosnia and Herzegovina.

90 2' We are into stoppage time. Six minutes have been added on, as both teams fight to find the winning goal. Couple of fouls by Canada on Bosnia and Herzegovina, with Kerim Alajbegovic and Tarik Muharemovic both fouled.

Super-sub Cyle Larin strikes! Lovely move right through the heart of the Bosnian midfield, Cyle Larin receives it with his back to goal and then turns and slams it home with a brilliant strike! A small deflection helps him too. Minutes after coming on, Larin makes the difference. And Toronto erupts!

76' Some more substitutions take place. Bosnia and Herzegovina have brought on talented winger Kerim Alajbegovic, while Canada have replaced Tani Oluwaseyi with the experienced Cyle Larin. 15 minutes or so to go!

66' Another Canada cross in from the left, Oluwaseyi rises and knocks a header towards goal, but the header lacks power and it's cleared just in front of the goalline by Bosnia and Herzegovina. 

Moments later, a counter-attack from Bosnia and Herzegovina, but they fail to make it count.

64' Canada's 6'5" striker Promise David, fresh off the bench, holds off a couple of defenders to create some space and get a shot away in the box. Unfortunately for him, the shot is blocked by Bosnia and Herzegovina. There may have been a shirt pull in the box, but not serious enough for the referee to have a look.

Eustaquio takes a powerful shot from range, but it goes over the bar.

61' We are just past the hour mark and Jesse Marsch has made three changes. It's a drastic overhaul in attack for Canada. Jonathan David, Tajon Buchanan and Liam Millar, arguably Canada's three-most recognized forwards, have been substituted. 

Bosnia and Herzegovina also take off goalscorer Jovo Lukic.

53' How have Canada not scored!? Liam Millar with some lovely work down the left, sends Oluwaseyi through who takes a lovely shot. The shot goes past the goalkeeper, but Bosnian captain Sead Kolasinac gets a crucial touch on the goalline! Incredibly, the ball bounces off the crossbar but does not go in! Incredibly unlucky for Canada, heroic in the end from Kolasinac.

Seconds later, it's a chance for Bosnia and Herzegovina at the other end, but the chance goes begging. End-to-end stuff.

48' Chance for Canada early in the second half! Tani Oluwaseyi creates space on the right wing and drives into the box, then fires a low ball in, which is scrambled away by the Bosnia and Herzegovina defence.

Moments later, Oluwaseyi goes down in the box after a collision with Bosnian goalkeeper Nikola Vasilj. Canada appeal for a penalty, but the referee doesn't think so.

46' We are back! The second half is underway at the Toronto Stadium. Canada will be desperate for an equalizer, in order to prevent becoming only the second-ever hosting nation to lose their opening World Cup game. They're on the ball immediately, can they make good use of the chances in the second half?

It won't be an exaggeration to say that Canada have been the better side in terms of their movement, build-up and chance creation. But the most decisive aspect has been lacking: finishing. Jonathan David missed a glorious chance in the early minutes, hitting it straight at the goalkeeper despite having plenty of time and space. Tani Oluwaseyi also did well to create a chance for himself, but blazed it over the bar.

HALF TIME! The referee blows the whistle to mark the end of the first 45 minutes. Canada have dominated proceedings, enjoying 64% possession and taking 10 shots. But they have paid the price for missing big chances, with Bosnia and Herzegovina scoring against the run of play at the other end. Jovo Lukic the goalscorer, scoring from a corner in the 21st minute.

45 1' Four minutes of stoppage time added on at the end of the first 45. Meanwhile, another foul committed by Bosnia and Herzegovina, and this time it's the goalscorer, Jovo Lukic, who gets a yellow card. Bosnia and Herzegovina going the physical route to prevent Canada from any openings in the last few minutes of the first half.

44' Bosnia-Herzegovina striker Demirovic commits a foul after a late challenge on a Canadian defender. The referee comes over to show him a yellow card, the first one for Bosnia-Herzegovina today.

38' Liam Millar, Canada's left-winger, is looking threatening, and wins another corner. The set-piece is swung in by Eustaquio, Jonathan David goes for an ambitious bicycle kick that ultimately ricochets off a Bosnian defender. David appeals for a handball, but the referee doesn't award it.

33' Canada squander yet another chance. They're dominating the ball, creating more chances, but are just not able to give the finishing touches. Striker Tani Oluwaseyi with some brilliant hold-up play to turn and create space for himself, but his left-footed shot goes well over the bar.

21' GOAL! BOSNIA-HERZEGOVINA TAKE THE LEAD! A lovely cross from a corner, a flick-on in near-post, and then it is tucked home by forward Jovo Lukic with another header. Against the run of play, Bosnia-Herzegovina have stunned the hosts in Toronto. Canada pay the price for the big miss moments earlier. Dramatic!

16' Lovely move from Canada, who are gaining momentum, who build up through the left, swing a cross in. Jonathan David was in the box, but the cross was just in front of him. Moments later, the ball drops in space for David, who shoots with his left foot but straight to the Bosnian goalkeeper! Jesse Marsch is absolutely fuming at the missed chance.

14' Decent move from Canada, as they look to create an opening from the right wing. Jonathan David with an inviting cross into the box, but Bosnia-Herzegovina's defence get it out for a corner. Canada try the short corner again, but ultimately whip it in, to no avail.

Canada have never won a game in their FIFA World Cup history. In fact, Canada have not even achieved a single point, losing all six of their previous matches in the tournament. Well, what better way than to break that streak in front of their home crowd? Canada must be desperate to ensure they earn three points today. And given the talent in their squad, it is quite possible, even without Alphonso Davies.

Canada and Bosnia-Herzegovina will face off in the third game of FIFA World Cup 2026. There have been two games so far. Co-hosts Mexico outclassed South Africa 2-0 in front of an electrifying Estadio Azteca yesterday, in a game that stole headlines for the three red cards that were shown. Hours later, South Korea defeated Czechia 2-1 in a dramatic game.

Alphonso Davies suffered a hamstring injury in the lead-up to the FIFA World Cup 2026, and has not recovered in time to feature in Canada's opening match against Bosnia and Herzegovina. Head coach Jesse Marsch revealed that Davies is not yet at "100% fitness", leading him to be ruled out.

For Canada, Jonathan David will certainly be the main man up front, but they also have an excellent right wing, with winger Tajon Buchanan and right-back Alastair Johnston. Midfielder Ismael Kone is also an exciting player.

As for Bosnia, Sead Kolasinac and Tarik Muharemovic are part of a strong defensive unit. Keep an eye out for wingers Esmir Bajraktarevic and Kerim Alajbegovic. Bajraktarevic is starting today, while Alajbegovic is likely to come off the bench. And, of course, Edin Dzeko too!

What a run Bosnia and Herzegovina have made to the FIFA World Cup! After qualifying as an independent nation for the very first time in 2014, they have done it again in 2026, defeating four-time World Cup winners Italy in the final qualifier to book their spot. Edin Dzeko, now 40, will be leading the team this time around. But the side have a good mixture of youth and experience heading into the World Cup this year.

Canada are looking to make history on home soil in FIFA World Cup 2026. They have never made it to the knockout stage of the tournament, having participated in two previous editions (1986, 2022). This time, Canada have a number of talented players in their squad, and will fancy their chances of qualifying from Group B, which also includes Bosnia-Herzegovina, Switzerland and Qatar.

Nora Fatehi will perform the FIFA World Cup song 'Siir Siir' at the Canada opening ceremony today. The song is inspired from a Moroccan football chant, which means "go, go". The official music video of the song was released a few days ago, where Nora Fatehi performed along with French singer Vegedream and Bangladeshi-American artiste Sanjoy.

While Shakira headlined the FIFA World Cup opening ceremony in Mexico City last night, another opening ceremony will take place tonight, ahead of the first match in Canada. India-based Canadian singer Nora Fatehi, who is of Moroccan heritage, will be the headline attraction during the opening ceremony.
