'Jurgen Klopp's Arrival Bad News for British Coaches'
Jurgen Klopp, who gained wide acclaim during his stint with Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga, took over at Liverpool on October 8 after his predecessor Brendan Rodgers was sacked after a poor start to the EPL which saw the club slip to the 10th spot on the EPL standings after eight matches.
Bournemouth FC boss Eddie Howe believes that the arrival of celebrated German manager Jurgen Klopp at struggling English Premier League (EPL) outfit Liverpool has made it harder for British coaches to land a job with a top club.
Klopp, who gained wide acclaim during his stint with Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga, took over at Liverpool on October 8 after his predecessor Brendan Rodgers was sacked after a poor start to the EPL which saw the club slip to the 10th spot on the EPL standings after eight matches.
"I think it's difficult for British coaches to get a job at the top clubs and may get harder as time goes by. The more foreign managers who come in and do well the tougher it becomes for British guys. The challenge is for us prove we are good enough," Howe was quoted as saying by the Daily Express on Wednesday.
"The fact another really good football brain has come into this country is good, new ways of playing should be embraced. Another world class coach coming in gives it more exposure and makes it tougher."
Klopp has presided over draws with Tottenham Hotspur and Southampton since arriving at Anfield and Howe believes that the 48-year-old German has the ability to revive Liverpool's sagging campaign.
"Jurgen has a great reputation and has done magical things in his last job. I'm sure Liverpool will hope he can recreate that. I was a big admirer of Dortmund, how they played and what he did with the side," the former defender said.
"It will be intriguing to see what he does with the team and what changes he makes. You have got to expect a different team, different way of playing and different set up," he added.
Bournemouth -- currently placed 17th on the EPL table -- have conceded consecutive 5-1 defeats at the hands of Manchester City and Tottenham. But Howe is confident that his players will be able to snatch a victory when they travel to Anfield for a League Cup pre-quarterfinal encounter on Thursday.
"We are really looking forward to the game. It is great we are still in the cup and we go to Anfield keen to progress," the 37-year-old said.
"You can ignite your season with a good cup run. We certainly felt hard done by with one or two decisions which went against us in the league game."
