Nicholas Brendan Beard, born in Dunedin, New Zealand, is a left hand batsman as well as a slow left-arm bowler. Having started playing cricket at an early age of six, Beard went on to represent his home team Otago at the U17 and U 19 levels. Beard has also been a part of New Zealand U19 team that took part in the 2008 U19 ICC Cricket World Cup in Malaysia. In the same year, he made two ODIs and two Tests appearances in the U19 tour to England. He made his first class debut for Otago in 2009 against Auckland.
As a young boy growing up in Dunedin, Beard idolized Nathan Astle, the star batsman for New Zealand. His most recent appearance came playing for New Zealand XI against England XI in a tour match.
