CLT20 2013: Brendon McCullum helps Otago beat Faisalabad
Brendon McCullum hit an unbeaten 83 to guide Otago Volts to an eight-wicket victory over Pakistan T20 champions Faisalabad Wolves in the first qualifier.
Brendon McCullum led from the front to help Otago Volts beat Faisalabad Wolves by 8 wickets the first qualifier in Mohali. McCullum remained not out on 83 while Derek de Boorder scored an unbeaten 30 to see Otago home. James McMillan got rid of Faisalabad Wolves openers early to put Otago Volts on top from the beginning.
Khurram Shehzad scored a crucial 27 runs and was involved in a 61-run partnership with skipper Misbah-ul-Haq to bring Faisalabad back in the game.
Skipper Misbah-ul-Haq top scored for Faisalabad Wolves and was also involved in a 61-run stand for the fourth wicket with Khurram Shahzad. He scored 44.
As Faisalabad Wolves were looking to get a big total, Ian Butler struck twice to remove the two set batsmen - Khurram Shehzad and Misbah-ul-Haq - in quick succession.
Samiullah Khan gave Faisalabad Wolves just the kind of start they needed as he removed Neil Broom in the first over.
But captain Brendon McCullum had other plans. He smashed an unbeaten 83 off 65 balls to help Otago Volts win within 18 overs. Wicketkeeper Derek de Boorder also remained not out on 30.
