A right-arm off-spinner, Sohag Gazi first played for Barisal Division in the domestic set-up in 2010 and impressed with a five-wicket haul on debut.
Over the next two years, Gazi continued his impressive performances in the domestic circuit and was at his peak in the 2011-2012 season. 11 wickets including a hat-trick and a hundred labeled him as a promising youngster in Bangladesh cricket. His hard work was finally rewarded by a national call-up, when he was picked for the Test series against West Indies in 2012 over Enamul Haque Jr.
