Right then! Tests to the Windies. ODIs shared. T20Is to the English. We have come to the end of a long tour of the Caribbean by England. A whitewash is probably what most cricket fans expected in all the three formats - to their luck, they got it only towards the end with nearly three quarters of the tour providing rich, entertaining cricket. England were thoroughly outplayed in the Tests by a resurgent Windies while the number 1 ODI team had to prove itself in the 50-over game, against an inspired Chris Gayle. The T20Is were perhaps an aberration with the hosts mentally tired and eager for some well-deserved rest before the massive World Cup. Do they stand a chance in that tournament? They sure do. Have England been given a reality check? One would assume so. Both teams have learnt a lot and have plenty to ponder in what could have and what turned out to be during this tour. It seems like a storm has taken over the Caribbean as the heavens open up. Morgan holds the trophy aloft with umbrellas alongside him, basking in glory and the rain. The crowd meanwhile, runs helter-skelter for shelter.

Victorious England captain, Eoin Morgan, is finally short of words when asked what could England have done better in this series. Praises different individuals for stepping up when required. On the team improving towards the end, Morgan says that even in the past few tours of the Windies by England, they have gradually improved with every playing match and 2019 was no different.

CHRIS JORDAN HAS BEEN NAMED THE MAN OF THE SERIES. Says that it was a good series for him personally and adds that the team ended up having fun. Is happy with the fact that they could bowl out Windies under 100 twice in a row. Praises the entire team for displaying excellent variations with the ball, in terms of pace and lengths. Like Willey, Jordan too, is not seemingly bothered whether he gets a chance to play in the World Cup or not, focusing now on only giving his best.

DAVID WILLEY HAS BEEN NAMED THE MATCH FOR FIGURES OF 3-0-7-4. Says that his role is to try and swing the new ball and in this game, he found plenty of swing. Is not too concerned whether he gets a spot in the ODI World Cup and is only bothered about taking wickets while playing. Adds that he wants to continue taking wickets in the Powerplay.

Windies skipper, Jason Holder, feels that there was no drop in intensity but credits England for bowling well. Reckons that his own team did not respond or adapt well, a factor to be developed in the future. Wants his unit to work on its death bowling and the fielding - a bit complacent for now, according to Holder. Overall, on the entire tour, Jason says that Windies were brilliant in the Tests and ODIs but simply did not turn up for the T20Is. Stresses that he is happy as a skipper and is now looking forward to the tri-series against Ireland and Bangladesh in a couple of months' time, before the World Cup.

Nothing much to write about the Windies bowling. The fact that they bowled 2 maidens shows that had they batted out their 20 overs and scored around 120-130, we might have had a contest. But their batsmen were simply not prepared to adjust, as if wanting to end this tussle as quickly as possible. Please stay tuned for the presentation...

Chasing 72 should never have been an issue and it wasn't. Hales and Bairstow set out on the course for a 10-wicket win but the 16-run opening over was the only big over they got in the Powerplay. Boundaries and runs came at a premium but unlike the Windies, the visitors did not throw it away. Bairstow scored more than half the required runs and helped his team to a 3-0 whitewash.

It is sad that such a terrific summer has ended in a damp squib. The Windies started the Tests with a bang, followed it up with a competitive ODI series but then fizzed out in the T20Is. England, on the other hand, improved with every passing game and the results are there to be seen.

23.3 overs. That is all this game has lasted. A sorry outing for the home side and an even more sorry state of affairs for the crowd. Turning out on a Sunday, expecting a Gayle special perhaps for one last time in the Caribbean, only to get a pocket with a hole.
