So that's it from us. We witnessed a real thriller here, folks, and we hope you enjoyed it. England are the third team to seal a berth into the semi-finals and they will be ecstatic about it. Sri Lanka on the other hand have a young and new team and they will only learn from this experience. There's a double header tomorrow as Afghanistan take on West Indies at 1500 IST and India will lock horns against Australia at 1930 IST. Do join us for it. Till then, adios and take care!
The Sri Lankan skipper, ANGELO MATHEWS says they started off brilliantly. Adds after the first 6 overs, they got going well but lost wickets towards the end. Also says it hasn't been a good tournament for them and since it is a new team it is a learning curve for them.
The England skipper, EOIN MORGAN says it got tighter than they would have hoped for. Adds he is happy with how they applied the pressure over the Lankans. Also says they had talked over within themselves that they would do whatever it takes to go a long away ahead in this tournament and that's just what they did. (On will they repeat what they did in 2010?) He replies they want to replicate what they did in 2010 and that they want to continue to do that. Ends by saying that they don't want to get too far ahead of themselves before the semi-finals.
Player of the Match, JOS BUTTLER says it was a good score and as Angelo was chasing it down it got close. Also says that the vital hit by Stokes in the end was good as every run matters in this format. Adds that as one of the more experienced guys, you have to stand up and deliver. Also says they were under-prepared against Afghanistan in Mumbai and so they didn't want to repeat that. Ends by saying they were West Indies supporters last night and that they have a good group of youngsters who have made it through to the semi-finals.
The Brits did a good job overall with the ball. They started off well and put the Lankans under tremendous pressure picking up early and crucial wickets. It seemed like the game would be taken away from them when Mathews and Kapugedera started their onslaught but they did well to comeback into it with some good fielding placements and some excellent catches out in the field. Chris Jordan was the pick of the bowlers with 4 wickets for 28 runs in his 4-over spell.
After Kapugedera's dismissal, things didn't slow down. Whoever came in contributed as much as they could with some heavy blows. It almost went down to the wire but it was just too big a total for them to reach. It was a commendable fightback but they just weren't upto it on the night.
That was close to say the least. Sri Lanka put up an excellent fightback which was led by their skipper and talisman, Angelo Mathews. He walked in and took charge of things. He along with Kapugedera started the fireworks and put up a brilliant stand of 80 runs off 60 deliveries. That really set the tone and it got Sri Lanka very close to their target. Even had England worried there.
