Right then, that's all we have for today. Lots of excitement awaits us tomorrow as Bangladesh play Netherlands at 1500 IST and then Ireland will take on Oman at 1930 IST. Until then it's goodbye from us. Take care and see you!
The victorious captain ASGHAR STANIKZAI says that today their opening partnership was very good. Further states that the total was good as the wicket was on the slower side. Continues that winning the first game is always important in any tournament and he is happy that they won.
The losing captain PRESTON MOMMSEN says they got a great start chasing but unfortunately did not cross the line as they lost a few wickets. Continues that they got a brilliant start to the game but couldn't put the foot on the accelerator. Further states if they had kept them to 10-15 runs lesser it would have been better. Also says that these are the areas to work on and also their batting in the middle overs. Ends by saying that the openers were brilliant and played great cricketing shots but unfortunately none of them could carry it forward.
MOHAMMAD SHAHZAD IS THE MAN OF THE MATCH. Says that he is thankful to God and happy that they won the first match of the qualifiers. Continues that this is a good win for them and winning against Scotland is a morale booster for them. Further states that the wicket later became slow and the ball was not coming well on to the bat and praised Rashid for his good bowling.
Scotland will be disappointed with the end result after getting a flying start. Nevertheless, this is the game of T20 and it changes every over. Credit to Afghanistan for holding their nerves under pressure. Stay tuned for the presentation.
The Scotland team played all guns and power but in the middle overs they failed to hit the big shots. Machan and Mommsen tried their best in the end overs but failed to catch up with the asking run-rate. It was a flurry of wickets and slow run rate which cost Scotland the match. A word of praise for Mohammad Nabi who bowled an exemplary penultimate over and pushed Scotland on the back foot.
What a fight by the Scotland side but it was not enough. In pursuit, the duo of Munsey and Coetzer put up a good stand of 84 in quick time. While they were batting, the game was certainly in their control. But after losing four wickets for 24 runs, the Afghani boys stamped their authority and made it difficult for the batting side to sail along the winning coast. The likes of Amir Hamza and Rashid Khan were impressive as the former bowled tight lines and latter picked up wickets. Also bad running between the wickets made it worse for the chasing team.
