So, that brings us to an end of the Super 10 stage of the 2016 World T20. It's kaboom time from now on as only the two semi finals and the big final remain. England take on New Zealand in Delhi on 30th March at 1900 IST in the first semi final while West Indies face India in Mumbai on 31st March at 1900 IST in the second semi final. Do join us for those cracking encounters. Until then, it's goodbye from us.
FAF DU PLESSIS says that he is baffled by their shock defeat to England in their Cup opener after getting 229. Feels that they weren't convincing in their win against Afghanistan at all. Says that they were disappointing in their England game which capped a nightmarish tournament for them. Opines that SA played the perfect game tonight in all departments. Feels that the England game could have been won 9 on 10 times and with a bit more luck, the WI game could have been won as well. (On whether he'll play the next World T20) Replies that he is having some grey hairs but hopes to be around for the next World T20 in 2020.
DINESH CHANDIMAL says that the rebuilding excuse cannot be made forever. Feels that someone has to show responsibility and step up. States that they couldn't capitalize after a good start tonight and stresses on the batting as the big reason behind their failure in the tournament. Adds that they weren't able to execute their plans in the tournament at all. (On if he will play the next World T20 in 2020) Says that it depends on his performance but hopes to be around for the next World T20.
AARON PHANGISO (MAN OF THE MATCH) feels that the pitch was great and was aiding the spinners with the ball stopping a bit off the deck. Admits that the tournament was a tough one for his team. Feels that they did well coming into the tournament but weren't lucky enough on the big stage. Says that all the squad members put their best in the tournament and points out that a dead rubber doesn't demotivate the players at all as playing for the country is an honor. Ends by saying that playing in India is good fun as the tracks back home don't suit spinners as they do in India.
None of Sri Lanka's bowlers created an impression as they failed to create consistent pressure on the SA batsmen. However, Sri Lanka's bowlers cannot be faulted as their batsmen never really put enough runs on the board. Dilshan, Chandimal and Shanaka were the only batsmen to make some contribution for SL earlier in the night. The defending champions needed a big knock though and that never came. In the end, they were at least 20-25 runs short on this surface.
Thumping win for South Africa to end their 2016 World T20 campaign. Chasing a very modest 121 to win, they lost de Kock early to a horrible run out. However, Amla and du Plessis stitched a steady partnership to put the result beyond doubt. Although the SA skipper departed to a debatable lbw decision, Amla motored on to his 5th T20I fifty while also completing 1000 runs in the shortest format. de Villiers joined him as the pair finished off the game with 14 balls left.
