That is it then and it was yet another statement victory for Mumbai as they made it two wins out of two. The action in the Women's T20 League continues on Tuesday, the 7th of March as the only two teams to have played one game go head-to-head. It will be Delhi taking on UP at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy, Navi Mumbai. That game will begin at 7.30 pm IST (2 pm IST) but our build-up will begin a lot sooner. Do join us then. Cheers!
Hayley Matthews (77* off 38 balls and 3 wickets for 28 runs) is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for her sensational all-around display. Hayley says that there wasn't a big difference in the first game and this one other than she batted longer in this game and with freedom as well. Adds that she tries to play her natural game and let the ball come on. Mentions that she is pleased that she was able to come back with the ball and pick up a couple of big wickets. Says that there are a lot of match-winners in the side and that allows her the freedom to express herself as well.
The skipper of Mumbai, Harmanpreet Kaur says that batting and bowling both went well for them but they didn't bowl as well as they did in the previous game. Adds that they just wanted to back themselves and always thought to chase. Mentions that the team is ready to take responsibility and step up whenever needed. Adds that they are gelling well as a side. Closes by saying that she wanted to give the bowlers some extra time and set the field according to the plan which helps in the game.
The Presentation ceremony...
Smriti Mandhana, the captain of Bangalore says that they would have loved to put on a better score and they were certainly below par but will look to come back harder. Adds that 2-3 batters got off to starts including herself but no one was able to kick on and as top-order batters, they need to work on batting deep. Mentions that they have a good bowling side and were below par with the bat and the blame cannot be put on the bowlers in this game. Says that it is a short tournament and as a leader, it is important for her to stay positive and won't dwell on the losses much. Says that the way Kanika Ahuja and Shreyanka Patil batted was a positive for them and she is happy with it.
Earlier in the game, after being asked to bowl first, the Mumbai bowlers kept the Bangalore side to a subpar total on this fine wicket for batting. Bangalore started off well with the bat but lost their way in the middle phase and lost 5 wickets inside the first 10 overs. The lower middle-order batters got handy little partnerships and showed glimpses of their talent. Shreyanka Patil and Kanika Ahuja were fairly impressive with the bat. Megan Schutt got some handy lower-order runs took the side over 150. Hayley Matthews had an outstanding game as she got 3 wickets to go along with her 77* with the bat. Saika Ishaque and Amelia Kerr chipped in with a couple of wickets each to complete an all round effort from the team.
Bangalore, for the second time in a row, failed to show control the ball but with a below-par score on the board, not much can be blamed on the bowling. They dished out too many loose balls and gave away freebies at regular intervals plus the ground fielding was under-par as well which they would want to improve. Preeti Bose was the solitary wicket-taker tonight but the rest of the bowling was taken to the cleaners. They have now lost two games in a row and Smriti Mandhana's side has some thinking to do and will hope to turn their fortunes quickly.
A resounding win for Mumbai as they beat the Bangalore side by a massive margin of 9 wickets with over 30 balls to spare. Chasing 156 for the win, Mumbai started off well with Yastika Bhatia and Hayley Matthews as they added 45 in just 5 overs. Yastika departed for 23 after giving a good start. Hayley Matthews (77* off 38) continued in fine fashion in the company of Natalie Sciver (55* off 29 balls), the two overseas stars stitched on an unbeaten 114-run stand for the second wicket in under 10 overs. They pummeled the Banglore bowling all around the park and entertained the crowd, sealing a second successive big win which means that their net run rate is off the charts as well.
