Phew! That ends our proceedings for this game. We hope you enjoyed the coverage of the 453-run thriller in which Punjab kept their cool to win. They have kept their hopes alive so far with this vital win. Tomorrow we will see Delhi host Pune at 2000 local (1430 GMT). Do join us for all the action. Until then, it's goodbye and take care!
Man of the Match, Wriddhiman Saha says that they were looking to go hard in the Powerplay and they had good momentum. His role was to rotate if he could not hit the big shots. Further adds that they just went hard at the bowling since they were not sure of the par score. Confesses that he likes to bat anywhere the team needs him to and winning the game for the side is important. Credits the bowlers for holding their nerves as their plan was to bowl yorkers to Pollard who was tired after hitting the big shots. Jokes that he did not get enough balls towards him, with the dew but is happy that the team won. Hopes that they can carry the good work forward.
Punjab skipper, Glenn Maxwell says that he thought he cost his side the match with that dropped catch. Feels that they missed out on some run out chances as well. Praises Mohit Sharma and Sandeep Sharma for the way they bowled in the final two overs. Mentions that dew very much played a part and it was getting difficult to field and bowl in the end. Credits his teammates for staying calm under pressure. Praises Wriddhiman Saha for his performance tonight, mentions that he has been thrown around the batting order but has remained solid. Hopes that they put in another fearless performance in their last league game and sneak through the back door to the playoffs.
Mumbai skipper, Rohit Sharma calls it disappointing to lose such a close game. Feels that it was a great effort from his boys. Says that he thought the match was evenly poised when Hardik and Pollard were batting. Adds that the fresh wicket helped the batsman, it played really nicely. Mentions that he does not want to be too harsh on his bowlers since one-off games happen. Further says that they can get better and take positives from the game. Credits Guptill, Maxwell and Saha for their knocks. Ends up saying that they want to improve in all three departments of the game. Thanks the crowd for their tremendous support throughout the tournament and says that they have played good cricket to entertain them.
Kieron Pollard and Hardik Pandya however had different plans. They together stitched 55 runs in just 21 balls before the latter departed. The big West Indian remained calm and took his team close to the target along with Karn Sharma. 16 runs were needed off the last over and last match's hero for Punjab, Mohit Sharma had the ball in his hand. He was up against the mighty Pollard but the Indian kept calm and bowled exceptionally well to seal the deal for his side.
What a thriller we have witnessed tonight and it's Punjab who have held their nerve to stay alive in the tournament. To begin, the visitors put up a humongous total of 230 on the board and it looked like they had enough. However, Parthiv Patel and Lendl Simmons gave Mumbai a superb start. The latter got to his 11th Indian T20 League fifty but departed soon. After his wicket Mumbai started to falter, losing a couple more wickets without adding much runs.
