That's all from this Super Sunday! We have had a terrific couple of games! A Super Over in the match between Hyderabad and Kolkata and now Mumbai and Punjab give us two in the same match. What more can we ask for? Entertainment, entertainment and entertainment. On Monday, 19th October, 2020, Chennai go up against Rajasthan in Abu Dhabi. That match will start at 1800 Local (1400 GMT). Join us for that. Until then, cheers and take care.
The winning captain is also the Man of the Match, KL Rahul. He starts off by saying that he is fine and says that this is not the first time this has happened but hoped that they do not make a habit of this and that they will take the two points however they come. Says that it does not always happen and that you don't know how the game will go and adds that the boys have worked really hard. Adds that they are trying to come harder each game and they needed such a victory. Tells that after wicket-keeping for 20 overs, the first 6 overs of the Powerplay were important and it was also important that him and Mayank start off on a good note. Adds that they also have Gayle and Pooran which makes his job as a batter easy. Says that you can never prepare for Super Overs and he has learnt that he has to trust his bowler's gut and tells that Shami was clear in his approach to bowl six yorkers in the Super Over and adds that he has performed well in the previous editions and he is happy that experienced players are performing well. Tells that they are taking just a single game at a time and the talk in the dressing room is to go out there and give it their best and that everybody is hungry and professional and it is clear to them that they need to bring their A-game in all the games but they do not need to forget the process involved in every game.
Mayank Agarwal is in for a chat! Starts off by saying that he was close to the boundary and his thought was to just keep the ball inside. Adds that he only thought about keeping the ball inside the field and nothing else crossed his mind. Tells there was just a shock as his elbow hit the ground and he is fine. Tells that the mindset was that there was nothing to lose and he says that the game against Delhi came to mind but he just focused on this. Adds that he is very happy with the two points and beating a team like Mumbai feels good. Tells that it was a dream to take part in the Indian T20 League and that it is amazing to be a part of this tournament and especially this game. Tells that it is amazing to be part of a good dressing room. Praises KL Rahul and says that his performances in this tournament is remarkable. Says that they do not look at the points table and just look to take one game at a time.
Kieron Pollard is in for a chat! He starts off by saying that one or two runs are very crucial in T20 cricket and that Punjab deserved the two points. Says that this was definitely good for viewership. Adds that by the 11th or 12th over, they knew that they were behind but they did well to get to the 170-run mark which was good on a surface which was slowing down. Says that they prepare in the game of cricket and says that these things happen. Adds that you prepare for things and then the situation dictates what will happen. Tells that he does not think that this will affect their confidence. Adds that Rohit is not feeling too well, so he came out on his behalf to talk.
Earlier, in the day, Mumbai reached 176 courtesy of a final few overs blitz from Kieron Pollard and Nathan Coulter-Nile! They were excellent and some contributions from Krunal Pandya as well while Quinton de Kock was brilliant as ever. Punjab were good with the ball at the start. They picked up regular wickets but faltered at the death. They should have batted much better and not let the game go to a Super Over. But, that is what happened. Two Super Overs but it was Mayank Agarwal who hit the winning runs in the second Super Over and took Punjab home and got them equal with Hyderabad and Rajasthan on the points table.
Mumbai, on the other hand, were not bad with the ball. They started poorly but came back well in the middle overs when they kept things tight and they did not give many runs away. They managed to take the wickets of Gayle, Maxwell and Pooran in that period and that was a game-changer but just when it was thought that Rahul will take the game away from them, Bumrah came to the party like he always does and he removed KL Rahul. They needed to defend 9 off the final over and Boult delivered a splendid over to take the game to a Super Over. They will be disappointed though with how they batted in the Super Overs as they could not chase down 6 in the first and then Boult failed to defend 12 in the second.
Punjab though will feel that they should have won this game a lot earlier than they did. They were cruising at one stage when KL Rahul was batting at the crease and he was getting some valuable contributions from the others as well but just at the crucial time, Rahul fell and that opened the gates for Mumbai. They would have been favouring themselves when they needed just 9 in the final over but they failed to find the fence and the match went into a Super Over. The first Super Over saw Punjab score only 5 but Shami did the unthinkable as he defended it and brought it to another Super Over. And what happened in the next was Gayle and Agarwal were brilliant. Credit should also go to Mayank Agarwal who made a terrific stop in Mumbai's second Super Over.
Phew! What a game! Heart-wrenching stuff from these two sides! It swayed and swayed and after two Super Overs, it is Punjab who take the honours. They deserved it after they defended 6 in the first Super Over. Punjab sent Gayle and Agarwal to chase down 12 in the second Super Over and they have done it with ease. No fuss at all and they go back as a happy duo. Mumbai, on the other hand, will be disappointed with that over from Boult. He could have defended it but bowled a couple of full tosses and he was punished. What a game we have witnessed in Dubai. Earlier, it was in Abu Dhabi and now it is Dubai. This Sunday was as entertaining as ever.
