What a damp squib! India thoroughly dominated the contest and made it a one-sided affair. Next up, in Semi-Final 2, New Zealand will be crossing swords against Bangladesh on Thursday at 1000 local (0800 GMT). The winner will meet India on Sunday for the coveted trophy. Do join us for all the action. Cheers!
India U19 skipper, Priyam Garg says that he is very happy to get to the final and are one step closer to their aim now. He feels that they have the best bowling attack in the tournament as their pacers bowl around 140 kph and their spinners are very consistent with their lines and lengths as well. On the combination of Jaiswal and Saxena , Garg adds that this is not the first time that they have done this and that they have been doing it for a long time now. Says their the running between the wickets is good and they complement each other. On being asked about the final, Garg says that he wants his team to focus on the same process and play the final as just another game.
Pakistan U19 skipper, Rohail Nazir is down for an interview. He says that the wicket was good but they did not put up a good total on the board. Says that at the halfway stage when Pakistan were batting, they were going good but in the middle overs the crucial partnership never came and that hurt them. Talking about the Indian team, he says that their batting is exceptional along with their bowling and fielding which is very good as well. Adds that they will learn from their mistakes. Ends by saying they have to perform in the crunch moments and is looking forward to the 3rd place playoff match.
Yashasvi Jaiswal has been named the Man of the Match for his fantastic unbeaten ton. He starts by saying that this is a dream come true for him and these feelings cannot be described in words. Says defeating Pakistan in a semi-final is extra special. On his partnership with Saxena, he says that they had to stay at the wicket because the pitch was pretty good. Mentions that they decided to ride out the tough spell and knew that it would become easier later. Adds that all this is because of the hard work done by everyone, right from the management, the physios and his teammates. Ends by thanking the crowd for coming out in large numbers and supporting them.
It was a listless performance by Pakistan at the grand stage. Their batting suffered a collapse and then their bowling failed to turn up. They will be crestfallen after losing so badly to their neighbours. The Boys in Blue complete a dominating and ruthless performance and are looking good to defend their title.
A comprehensive win for India! They have thrashed their arch-rivals in this crunch encounter and stormed into their third successive final of the ICC Under-19 World Cup! It could have been a stiff target given the bowling prowess of Pakistan but the Indian openers applied themselves and completely blunted the bowling attack. Yashasvi Jaiswal stroked a fluent century and received good support from Divyaansh Saxena from the other end. Together the pair showed great temperament and technique to outclass Pakistan.
