So that ends our coverage of the fourth Test between India and England at Wankhede stadium in Mumbai. It was a high voltage contest and the home side have further stamped their authority to win the series. The fifth Test will be a dead rubber but England would look to fight back and play for pride. Join us on 16th December for the final Test at 0930 IST. Till then, goodbye and take care!
INDIA SKIPPER AND MAN OF THE MATCH, VIRAT KOHLI - Mentions that it is a very special feeling to win the series. Adds that when he was taking a victory lap, he had a chat with Ashwin, that last time they were playing England here and lost the game mentally and on the field. Adds that they were mentally strong this time around and after they got a 231-run lead, the opposition was deflated. Adds that their batsmen adjusted well to the bounce on this track. Mentions that Murali Vijay was not quite going well in the series but adjusted beautifully to play a champion knock. Jayant Yadav was very very special and played a terrific knock. Adds that they were 2-0 up and he wanted to seal the series here itself. States that the intent helped him to capitalize on his innings. Mentions that when they got close to 400 they took control. Adds that going 3-0 up will allow them to really express themselves in the Chennai Test. Feels that the batsmen needed to apply themselves on this track and even the bowlers. Adds that they had an advantage as England had a spinner less. Opines that Ashwin is out there to win the man of the match award whenever he comes out to play and even the man of the series. Mentions that the batsmen play second fiddle to his bowling performances and he has been superb with the bat too. Adds that he is a very intelligent guy and he is delighted to have him in the team. Mentions that the English side played high risk shots and they are not very confident in their defense. Feels that this has been the difference between the two sides and the Indian batsmen have enjoyed their defense. Mentions that probably the change in mindset has done the trick.
ENGLAND SKIPPER ALASTAIR COOK - Feels that 400 was a pretty good score on this wicket but also mentions that they had an opportunity to get 450-plus. Adds that they had a chance as India were 300-6 but Virat Kohli played a terrific knock and Jayant Yadav played really well too. Opines that they couldn't win the key moments. Mentions that in hindsight, it was a wrong decision to go for the fourth seamer but their spin options are limited. Mentions that they will look at the bowling composition going forward. Feels that they have had their chances but haven't been good enough to get over the line. Feels that bowling a lot of overs makes the spinners get tired. States that even Ashwin gets tired when he bowls a lot of overs. Also mentions that they scored over 600 runs in this game. Adds that they batted well than the previous games but couldn't bowl out India under 400. Feels that Virat Kohli is in incredible form. Adds that he is one of the best batsmen of this generation.
The hosts then came in really well with the ball as they had England struggling at 49/3 by tea on day 4. Root and Bairstow stuck it out in between for some time but England lost the plot with the former's dismissal. India finished the day in style by reducing England to 182/6 with a wicket off the very last ball of the day. It was always going to be an uphill task for them from there on and they crumbled under pressure this morning.
India got their act right as they posted a huge total on the board in reply. Vijay was the one who started off the act in style. Kohli came in on the third day of the Test match and kept going for his third double century - all of which have come this year while Vijay also got to his hundred. They looked crippling for a moment when they lost their middle order in quick succession. However, Jayant came in and stuck it out with Kohli to strike a 241-run partnership. The former also got to his maiden Test ton as India managed to take a really good lead of 231 runs.
England would have been happy with their batting in the first innings where they were shown the path by the debutant Jennings who started off with a ton. Moeen Ali and Buttler also chipped in with vital fifties. The spin duo got all the quota of wickets where Ashwin got 6 for 112 and Jadeja managed to notch four on the other hand.
India have taken an unassailable lead of 3-0 in the five-match Test Series. They have finished off the final day in just more than half an hour of play. Ashwin and Jadeja continued from where they stopped yesterday as the off spinner took the remaining wickets today. Bairstow the only fighter who was well set, was sent back really quickly today and that opened the floodgates.
Virat Kohli is leading his troops for a victory lap around the Wankhede stadium. The crowd is really loud and is up on its feet cheering them.
