Right then, that is it from the 2nd ODI where India takes an unassailable lead while England will play for pride in the next one. Now, we will shift our focus to the third and final ODI on 12th February, Wednesday. That will begin at 1.30 pm IST (8 am GMT), but as you know, you can always join us early for all the build-up to the match. Until then, cheers and goodbye!
Rohit Sharma, the victorious skipper of India, is also the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for his brilliant ton. He says that he enjoyed batting today, scoring some runs for the team. Adds that he broke it down into pieces how he wanted to bat. Mentions that he assessed what he wanted to do at regular intervals and it is important for batters to get set and go as deep as possible. Further mentions that looking at the pitch, the black soil, the ball tends to skid on so it was important to present a full face of the bat. Adds that later on he understood what the English players were looking to do, not giving any room to hit so he tried to access the gaps in the field. Adds that he got good support from Shubman Gill as well. Says that there is no mantra and they are just looking to bat as a team and he is not overawed by the situation and keeps his head down to do the job. Adds that the middle overs are crucial in ODI cricket and it is important to take wickets to stem the flow of runs. Mentions that they want to get better as a team and there is nothing specific for him going forward. Concludes by saying that as long as the guys are clear and keep doing what they are doing, there is not much to be worried about!
Jos Buttler, the captain of England says that they got into nice positions while batting but a few of them needed to convert their starts into big ones to push them closer to 350 which would have been a good total. He praises Rohit Sharma for his incredible hundred and says that he has been doing this a lot in ODIs for many years now. Mentions that they wanted to put runs on the board, but maybe the ball skidded on a bit more in the second innings but India played very well. Says that the two openers gave them a good start again and Joe Root also batted well, but they were a bit short. Ends by saying that they just keep taking steps in the right direction despite the results.
Presentation Time...
England will be gutted with their bowling effort! They failed to strike early and were sloppy in the field, letting India take control. Wickets came in the middle and later on, with Jamie Overton grabbing two, while Gus Atkinson, Adil Rashid, and Liam Livingstone chipped in - but by then, the damage was done. A tough outing, and they'll know they let this one slip!
Shubman Gill is up for a quick chat. He says that he was feeling good out there. Says that Rohit Sharma makes it easy for the other batters and the way he took on the faster bowlers was a treat to watch from the other end. Adds that the chat was simple to play according to the ball, and once set, try to go big and look to dominate the bowlers whenever you can. Concludes by saying that it was a decent wicket but the odd ball was keeping low.
Earlier in the game, England put up a fighting total, thanks to classy fifties from Ben Duckett and Joe Root, with Liam Livingstone adding the final flourish. But India's spinners turned the tide! Ravindra Jadeja was sensational, striking thrice, while Harshit Rana and Mohammed Shami chipped in to pull things back brilliantly after a shaky start.
India's chase was all about intent, and Rohit Sharma led the charge in vintage style! Batting like a dream, he and Shubman Gill raced past their fifties, stitching a blazing century stand. Gill departed, Kohli couldn’t fire, but Rohit was unstoppable, smashing his 32nd ODI ton in grand fashion. Though he fell before the finish, Shreyas Iyer chipped in, and Axar Patel's cool-headed, unbeaten 41 wrapped up the victory.
INDIA SEALS THE SERIES! A dominant show from the hosts as they outclass England and clinch the series with a game to spare. The crowd erupts in joy as the Men in Blue proves why they were the better side, seizing key moments with brilliance. For the visitors, it's a tale of missed chances, both with the bat and ball - they'll need to regroup fast with the Champion Trophy right around the corner.

OUT! TAKEN IN THE DEEP! Gus Atkinson bowls a good bouncer here, on middle. Hardik Pandya looks to pull it but gets a bit hurried. He hits it flat and uppishly towards deep square leg where Jamie Overton gets low and takes a good catch. India are 286/6 now, still needing 19 runs in 48 balls.
