Earlier in the game, Gujarat posted a huge total thanks to a smashing knock from Vijay Shankar of 63 runs off just 24 balls and a classy one from Sai Sudharsan. Sunil Narine was the pick of the bowlers for Kolkata for his three wickets. Coming to the chase, Venkatesh Iyer played brilliantly but the hero was Rinku Singh for his five sixes in the last over which took his side over the line.
Gujarat will be heartbroken as they know they have let this one go. They were behind till the 16th over. However, after getting hit in his first three overs, Rashid Khan saved his last over for Andre Russell and that turned out to be a masterstroke as he got rid of Dre Russ on the very first delivery and ended up with a hat-trick which turned things around massively for the home team. In the last over, Yash Dayal lost control and will want to erase this game from his memory as they suffered a defeat here.
Kolkata got off to a slow start and lost both openers quite early. After that, Venkatesh Iyer and Nitish Rana steadied their ship and also scored runs quickly as they stitched up a 100-run stand before the skipper got dismissed. Iyer continued his onslaught and smashed it all around the park but with the pressure of the required rate, he holed out after blasting 83 runs off just 40 balls which put the away side in a strong position with the big hitters still to come. However, they suffered an extraordinary collapse as Andre Russell, Sunil Narine and Shardul Thakur became victims of a brilliant Rashid Khan hat-trick. But, when everything seemed over, Rinku Singh stepped up and how! Kolkata smashed 31 runs off the final over to get over the line which has never happened in the history of this league.
Remember the name, Rinku Singh! He has pulled off a stunner here and Kolkata has won a game where they were down and out coming into the last over and after the Rashid Khan hat-trick.  They needed 29 runs in the last over and Rinku Singh managed to hit fives sixes on the last five balls to make this a special day for Kolkata. We have witnessed something extraordinary here!
