Right then! That's all we have from this game. India Women have sealed the series in an emphatic style and will be aiming to complete a whitewash, whereas England Women will be looking to finish the ODI series on a positive note. The third and final ODI will be played at the Home of Cricket, Lord's on Saturday 24th September. The action is all set to begin at 3.30 pm IST (10.00 am GMT). Do join us in advance for the build-up. For now, it's goodbye.
Harmanpreet Kaur the captain of India Women is also the Player of the Match. She says that when they came to England their goal was to win the series. Adds that whenever she is leading she is always in the game and she is really enjoying her role. Mentions that it was not easy to bat early in the innings as the bowlers were bowling well, but later on, she was well-set and gave herself the freedom to play all those shots towards the end. Says that all the bowlers, who came to bowl provided them with the breakthrough. On Jhulan Goswami she says that she might announce her retirement at Lord's, they feel great to have a senior like her on the team and they will miss her. Concludes by saying that the last game is very special firstly because it is being played at Lord's and secondly cause Jhulan Goswami will play her final game there.
Amy Jones the skipper of England Women says it is a tough loss but she feels they didn't switch and lacked some big partnership. Adds that Harmanpreet Kaur was finding the boundary everywhere. Reckons it will be a great learning for the bowlers as they are a young group. Shares that there is inexperience in the bowling side and coming up against India was always going to be challenging. Adds there is still a game to play and hopes to turn things around. Says it's been a long season and they want to turn up for the last game at Lord's.
Stay tuned for the presentation...
Earlier in the game, India Women were put in to bat first and that turned out to be a blessing in disguise. They scored a mammoth total of 333, courtesy of a world-class knock of 143 from the skipper, Harmanpreet Kaur. All the English bowlers were taken to the cleaners. They also gave away 24 wides while bowling. It was always going to be a mountain to climb for England Women after the first innings. They did put in a fight while batting, but none of their batters stuck around till the end. Eventually, they were defeated by 88 runs.
India Women got off to a bright start as they grabbed three wickets within the first Powerplay and put England Women under the pump early on in the innings. Post that, the English batters, Alice Capsey and Danni Wyatt steadied the ship with a 55-run stand before the former perished after a positive start. Danni Wyatt continued her merry way and stitched another solid stand of 65 runs with skipper, Amy Jones. However, once that partnership was broken England lost wickets in a heap and let the game slip away. It was Renuka Singh who grabbed four wickets for India and destroyed the batting lineup. The English tail did wag a little and delayed the inevitable, but they saved England Women from suffering a heavier defeat.
It's been yet another dominant performance from the visitors. They have not only clinched the game but have also secured a series in England after 1999! India Women had made it clear they want to win the series only for the evergreen, Jhulan Goswami and she certainly will get a winning farewell. Well for, England Women they have lost a bilateral series for the first time since 2007. A lot to ponder for them now.
