Right then! That is all we have from this game! Cricketing action in the Under-19 World Cup continues as Sri Lanka U19 take on Afghanistan U19 in the Super League Quarter-Final 4 on Thursday, the 27th of January. That match begins at 1830 IST (1300 GMT) but our coverage will begin much sooner. Do join us then. Cheers!
England Under-19 captain, Tom Prest says they started really well with the ball and to chase it down the way they did was special. Mentions Brevis is a very good player and when he got out, it was a crucial wicket but regular wickets is what they were able to do. Adds that Rehan Ahmed bowled really well and he will be keen to do well with the bat too. Ends by saying to watch Jacob the way he played was really good and they were pleased to get 100 in the Powerplay.
The South Africa Under-19 skipper, George Van Heerden says the English played awesome cricket but they have learned a lot and he believes they were outplayed. States they started well but lost a lot of wickets in the middle overs and they were at least 30 short. Credits England for the way they played. Also says Brevis adds so much to their team and he is good in everything he does. Ends by saying it will be difficult to get over this but they will and look to improve.
Jacob Bethell is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH! Jacob says they felt 240 was a good score but they were happy when they were chasing 210 but he did not expect the way he played out there. Adds he saw the ball went and all went right for him. Mentions he was not thinking a lot and just wanted to watch the ball closely. Also says they came in with very clear plans, Brevis played a good innings but they backed their bowlers in the field.
... Presentation Time ...
South Africa needed wickets early on but their pacers were actually taken to the cleaners. They were smashed all around the park. The spinners though did a decent job. Out of the 4 wickets to fall, they took three out of which two fell to Brevis who had a brilliant game but ends up on the losing side. Have to say England were the better side by some distance and it is a well-deserved win for them.
The openers got them off to the best possible start! The two added 110 within 11 overs with Jacob slamming the ball all around the park. He fell 12 short of what would have been an amazing ton. England then did lose a few wickets here and there but they were never really under any pressure. All they needed after that opening stand was one good innings and it came from Luxton to ensure a comprehensive win for his side.
A very comfortable win for England and they have stormed into the semi finals! To be honest, after their bowlers restricted South Africa to 209, this was never in doubt. However, the ease with which they have chased this down has seen them make a real statement.
