So that is it from this game. Delhi have come out victorious here tonight. This result though will not make a lot of difference on the table as the teams will remain on the position they are on. The Indian T20 League continues as we have two games for you on Saturday. it will be Rajasthan taking on Bangalore first in Jaipur at 1600 local (1030 GMT) and then Hyderabad will be facing Kolkata in their own den at 2000 local (1430 GMT). Till then, take care and goodbye.
Man of the Match, Harshal Patel, says it is more difficult to bowl on this ground but he managed to execute his plans well. He feels his four overs were more important than his cameo. Informs he was just watching the ball and playing it on its merit. Ends by saying he has worked on his own game and he has looked to stick to the basics.
Shreyas Iyer, the Delhi skipper, says they were desperate for this victory and they are satisfied as they have got it against a team which is considered as a very strong unit. Credits Harshal Patel for the way he batted and bowled. He mentions they were always ready for everything but they could not execute their plans in all the games.
MS Dhoni, the Chennai skipper, opines that the wicket got difficult as the game progressed which was the reason why their batsmen found it difficult to score runs and even credits the bowlers from the opposition for bowling well. Says it is difficult to predict how the wicket will behave and feels team needs to be very practical about what went wrong. Feels overall performance has been good but yes, he is disappointed with the loss. Adds he told boys not to look at the points table and just focus on this game. He is happy with the batting department, openers have been doing bulk of the work but wants the middle order to contribute more. States 100 different plans can be given to a bowler but every bowler has different strengths and he can shuffle the bowlers as per the conditions.
The Delhi bowlers used the conditions to their favor. Everybody except for Avesh Khan, who took a pounding, has exceptional figures to their name. Trent Boult and Amit Mishra were the highlight as the two finished with combined figures of, 8-0-40-4. The pacers used their variations to great effect. Whereas, the spinners too varied their pace to which the Chennai batsmen had not answers to.
Tremendous bowling effort by Delhi as they have managed to defend a target which by many was quipped as not enough against a strong batting line-up. Chasing a decent total, the opening pair got the away side off to a solid start. But once the Powerplay ended, run-scoring got very difficult. Watson departed immediately, but Ambati Rayudu looked extremely fluent, though he fell soon after scoring his fifty. Billings and Raina went in quick succession which saw MS Dhoni needing a lot to do. He too could not come to the fore and the visitors fell short by quite a few runs.
