Inn Break
Until next time - That's it from this entertaining contest, where Punjab Kings keep their unbeaten run going, while Mumbai Indians will look to bounce back in the next one. Up next, Gujarat Titans take on Kolkata Knight Riders at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on 17th April, Friday at 7.30 pm IST (2 pm GMT). Do join us early for all the build-up. Until then, cheers and goodbye!
PLAYER OF THE MATCH - Arshdeep Singh wins the award for his excellent figures of 3/22. Arshdeep Singh says that it feels really good and it is all due to a nice pep talk with Ricky Ponting in one of the training sessions. After that, he felt that the ball was coming out nicely out of the hand in the next training session and even in the game. Adds that it was all about the mental pressure, not anything technical, and Ricky made him understand that it is the high of a World Cup win, and he just needs to relax a bit. On the use of the scrambled seam delivery, Singh says that Mohammed Siraj uses it well and he (Arshdeep) isn't quite there yet, but feels that in a T20 game, a bowler has to have variations. On his tactics, Singh says that it is all about adapting before the batter knows and uses different variations for a new batter and for a set batter. He also mentions about his social media presence and enjoys the love he gets from the fans over there as well.
The victorious skipper of Punjab Kings - Shreyas Iyer says the way they are playing is making him feel confident and optimistic going ahead in the season. It has been a collective effort and this win was comprehensive. Iyer mentions that Prabhsimran Singh was giving them starts last season, but this year, he is taking it even further. Jokingly says that his catch pulled things back, but admits that the bowlers did a fine job at the death to keep them under 200. Iyer says that they have no thought about electing to bat first, but the team is ready for the opportunity. The players are more than willing to put runs on the board, but they are taking one game at a time, and the team's fan base is rising.
Presentation Time...
The man of the moment speaks - PBKS' Prabhsimran Singh (80* off 39), the star with the bat for Punjab Kings, says that he just believed in himself and rarely got a hit in the Powerplay, so he tried to take things deep. On showing maturity in the last couple of years, he says that he has worked a lot in the off season and wants to keep improving. Singh reckons that with the spinners, the ball was gripping a bit, and he tried to see the spinner off. On the form of Shreyas Iyer, Singh says that the captain gives them a lot of clarity, and the way he bats makes it easier for others around him as well.
The captain of Mumbai Indians - Hardik Pandya says that they need to go back to the drawing board and figure out whether there's something lacking with the individuals or as a team. Reckons that the dew did come in the second innings and there was some reverse swing on offer late in the first innings, but kudos to the opposition as they outclassed them in all departments. Pandya finishes off by saying that they will have to see whether they can make a few tough calls or they can turn things around, but feels that ownership needs to be taken.
Sloppy show costs Mumbai - Despite AM Ghazanfar picking up a couple of wickets in the Powerplay, Mumbai Indians never really looked like defending this total. They were inconsistent with their lines and lengths, leaked too many boundaries, and were sloppy in the field. The biggest moment came when Jasprit Bumrah put down Prabhsimran, a costly miss that hurt them badly. They also seemed to lack a strong presence on the field, with Pandya looking under immense pressure, while Bumrah's wicketless run continues to hamper them. It’s back to the drawing board for MI.
Century spark, but missing the final kick - Earlier in the game, Mumbai Indians posted a competitive total, highlighted by a fantastic unbeaten century from Quinton de Kock in his first game of the season, along with a fine half-century from Naman Dhir. The duo made the most of the chances that came their way, stitching together a massive 122-run stand, but the home side couldn’t quite get the finish they were aiming for. Arshdeep Singh looked back to his best for Punjab Kings, picking up 3/22 and also bringing up his 100th IPL wicket in the process, while Marco Jansen and Shashank Singh chipped in with one each. The rest, however, went for runs, though they did manage to pull things back a bit towards the end.
Relentless PBKS cruise home - Punjab Kings kicked off the chase in style, racking up 21 runs in the very first over to lay down a strong marker. They did lose a couple of wickets, but the intent never dipped as the batters kept the scoring rate soaring. Prabhsimran Singh continued his rich vein of form and found excellent support from skipper Shreyas Iyer, who is fast earning a reputation as a chase master. The pair stitched together a brilliant 139-run stand, completely taking the game away from the opposition, with Iyer bringing up yet another classy half-century before falling short of the finish line. Singh made sure there were no further hiccups, guiding the chase home alongside Stoinis, and stayed unbeaten on a blazing 80 off 39.
Kings rule Wankhede - Punjab Kings have stamped their authority at the Wankhede with a commanding win, staying unbeaten this season and rising to the top of the table, looking sharper than ever. They also edge ahead in the head-to-head, now leading 18-17. Mumbai Indians, meanwhile, slump to a fourth straight defeat, stuck near the bottom and still searching for answers.

Deepak Chahar To Marcus Stoinis
FOUR! That's it, Punjab Kings have cantered to a win, and they win the match by 7 wickets, with 21 balls to spare as well. Another fuller delivery outside off, Marcus Stoinis goes to fetch and drag the ball across the line but gets it off the inner half of the blade. There's plenty of power still on the ball and it splits the long on and deep mid-wicket fielders to run away into the fence.

Deepak Chahar To Marcus Stoinis
FOUR! Oh, a bit unlucky for the bowler. Another slower one, full and outside off. This one dips on the batter. Stoinis throws his bat at it but is a bit undone and gets an inside edge past the keeper and the ball rolls away into the fine leg fence.

Another low full toss, outside off, Singh hangs back and goes after it. It is a tired-looking shot, towards deep extra cover for a single.

Shardul Thakur To Marcus Stoinis
Full and straight, ends up being a low full toss, Stoinis punches it with a straight bat down to long on for a single.
Marcus Stoinis is not happy with someone moving near the sightscreen. The issue has been resolved and we are good to go again.

wd
Shardul Thakur To Marcus Stoinis
WIDE! Oh, fair to say, the batter's not reaching that one. Banged in halfway down the pitch, over middle, the ball bounces like a tennis ball and sails well over Stoinis' head.
Strategic Break! Shreyas Iyer failed to stay till the end, but he has done his job once again for his team. The result is inevitable here, and the Punjab Kings will look to finish it as soon as possible. Mumbai Indians just did not look like a team that has a lot of confidence at the moment. Naman Dhir did take a blinder, but they also dropped a few simple chances, and the ground fielding was far from ideal for a team like them. Also, Marcus Stoinis walks out to bat now.
15.3
W
Shardul Thakur To Shreyas Iyer OUT!
OUT! CAUGHT! Naman Dhir doesn't seem interested in taking regular catches, but he does take a blinder here. Shardul Thakur comes round the wicket and bowls another full ball, on middle and leg. This time, Shreyas Iyer walks inside the line and whips it squarer on the leg side. He hits it flat over mid-wicket and Dhir comes charging in from the deep before diving forward at full-stretch and pouching it brilliantly with both hands. End of a stellar knock from the Punjab skipper.

6
Shardul Thakur To Shreyas Iyer
SIX! Only someone in the crowd is dropping that one. Full on middle and leg, right in the slot, whipped away high and handsomely over wide long on for a 99-meter biggie. That went into the second tier.

Shardul Thakur To Shreyas Iyer
DROPPED AND SIX! Straight through the hands. Shortish delivery over middle, Iyer swings the pull away flat towards deep mid-wicket where Naman Dhir gets both hands over his head and just lets it slip through. The ball ends over the ropes and that's just adding insult to injury.
Five matches for MI, and for Bumrah, not a single wicket to his name so far. This is probably the most surprising thing so far in this season. Also, Shardul Thakur comes back into the attack.

FOUR! FIFTY FOR IYER! Another chase, another fantastic half-century and he is leading from the front here. A full toss, on middle, Shreyas Iyer, using his wrists, flicks it away through mid-wicket for a boundary. Just a raise of the bat as he wants to stay till the end and finish the job.

They will hope that this pair of Shreyas Iyer and Prabhsimran Singh extends this partnership and gets them to a comfortable position, and not let the pressure get to the middle order, which hasn't had a lot to do this season. Mumbai Indians have been a bit inconsistent with the ball, but it is important that they do well in this middle phase and use their variations. Here is Shardul Thakur to bowl now.

AM Ghazanfar To Cooper Connolly OUT!
OUT! CAUGHT BEHIND! AM Ghazanfar has the last laugh here. He bowls the carrom ball, full and outside off, does not spin much. Cooper Connolly stays in his crease and just extends his arms to loft it over cover but his feet go nowhere. The ball ends up taking a thin inside edge behind, where Quinton de Kock takes a sharp catch to his right. There is an appeal and the finger goes up right away. Connolly has a chat with his partner but does not take the review, which turns out to be the correct decision as UltraEdge shows a clear spike.

Hardik Pandya To Prabhsimran Singh
DROPPED! That should have been taken! Short of a length and just outside off, Pandya rolls his fingers to take pace off. Prabhsimran Singh looks to cut it away but gets a thick outside edge wide of backward point. Jasprit Bumrah moves to his left, gets both hands on it but spills out an easy chance. A single taken.
Just one over for Jasprit Bumrah up front? He might get another as the pressure in on the batting side right now with two tight overs on the trot. No, Hardik Pandya brings himself into the attack now.

AM Ghazanfar To Priyansh Arya OUT!
OUT! TAKEN! A soft dismissal and AM Ghazanfar gets a wicket here. Pushed through a bit quicker, full and on middle and leg. Priyansh Arya opens up his stance and looks to slog it over mid-wicket but ends up hitting it from the toe-end of the bat. He does not get the elevation and the ball goes straight to mid-wicket, where Deepak Chahar takes a good catch near his chest. PBKS are 27/1, chasing 196 runs.
