Gujarat Titans beat Rajasthan Royals by 58 runs
Right then, the Titans extend their dominance over the Royals, making it six wins out of seven encounters between the two sides. Next up in the 2025 Indian Premier League, we head down south to Bengaluru, where the Royal Challengers Bengaluru take on the only unbeaten team in the competition, the Delhi Capitals. It's set to be an exciting clash at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, with the first ball scheduled for 7.30 pm IST (2 pm GMT), but make sure to join us early for all the pre-match build-up. Until then, take care and goodbye!
Sai Sudharsan is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for his brilliant knock of 82 off just 53 balls, which included 8 fours and 3 sixes. He collects the award and is up for a chat. He expresses that IPL is the tournament where you need some momentum at the start. Says it is always a joy to contribute to the team and get a win. Informs that in the beginning, the wicket was seaming a bit, and hence, he took his time to settle. Says he took the game deep after the Powerplay. Adds they wanted to have wickets in hand, and it worked well for them. Says that they are clear on what they need to do. Stresses that if they lose some early wickets, the set batter has to play till the end. Also mentions the strong hitters coming in the backend. Says if the top order gives them the platform, they can launch big in the last five overs. About his approach, he talks about seeing what he can do better all the time. Adds that he tries to improve his awareness and just writes down what he wants to work on. Mentions about working on his basics, which is working nicely for him.
The skipper of the Gujarat Titans, Shubman Gill, shares that it was a good total to have on the board and acknowledges that the first 3-4 overs weren’t easy. He mentions that the way Sai Sudharsan and Jos Buttler batted was tremendous and adds that they would gladly take 217 any day of the week. Gill states that the bowling effort was clinical and highlights that everyone is chipping in, which he believes is the hallmark of a great team. He expresses that he’s pleased to have the kind of bowlers they do in the side, as it makes his job a lot easier as captain.
Time for the presentation ceremony...
Prasidh Krishna of the Gujarat Titans is up for a quick chat. He begins by crediting the team and the bowlers for the way they are taking wickets. Says there was some extra bounce in the pitch, and he tried to take advantage of that to target the ribs of the batters. Says their motto is to be adaptable and read the conditions early. Reflects that they don’t really see who picks wickets and who doesn’t, as he feels the game changes quickly after one good delivery in T20s. Adds they try to bowl quiet overs that help the next bowler from the other end. Mentions as a bowling unit, they are bowling really well, and that’s the reason that the wicket columns are filling up. Concludes by telling that they were lucky not to have much dew around.
The captain of Rajasthan Royals, Sanju Samson, says that they gave away 15-20 runs too many. Shares that whenever they wanted to up the ante, they lost a wicket. Mentions that when he was batting with Hetmyer, the ball was coming on nicely, and he felt they were on cue to chase it down. He says they both had a decent partnership and then lost a flurry of wickets, and that’s where they lost the game. Says there was some purchase in the wicket, and hence, they decided to bowl first. Further says that with someone like Jofra upfront, they know they can take early wickets. States that they could not execute their plans with the ball and that they will try to work on that. He says when they lose games, the call at the toss is always in question, but he thought the conditions required them to bowl first, and hence they went with that call. Says they want to be a team which is good at winning games when they bat first as well as when they bowl first.
Earlier, Sanju Samson won the toss and opted to field first, with Jofra Archer setting the tone early for the Royals through a fiery opening spell. Despite the early heat, Sai Sudharsan and Jos Buttler dug in to build a solid platform. The innings revolved around Sai's composed 82, with brisk cameos from Shahrukh Khan and Rahul Tewatia helping the Titans post 217. RR felt the absence of Wanindu Hasaranga, who missed the game due to personal reasons, as apart from Archer, the rest of the attack was taken to the cleaners.
From there on, the Titans turned the screws, and Hetmyer was left fighting a lone battle with little support from the other end. His dismissal proved to be the final nail in the coffin, as Gujarat sealed a comprehensive win. Among the takeaways for the Titans, Rashid Khan returning to form with wickets will be a major positive. On the flip side, from RR’s perspective, conceding as many as 17 runs in wides is something they will need to tidy up moving forward.
The Royals had a far-from-ideal start, losing a couple of early wickets, but Sanju Samson and Riyan Parag came together to land a solid counterpunch. Just when the momentum was shifting, a contentious caught-behind decision against Parag swung it back in GT’s favour, and as it often happens, one brought two. Samson then found an ally in Shimron Hetmyer as the duo looked to rebuild, but just as their stand was starting to gain traction, Samson perished.
Gujarat Titans make it four wins on the trot as their juggernaut continues to gather steam! This win takes them to the summit of the points table. The Royals, who came into this clash with back-to-back wins, have been halted in their tracks and the margin of defeat further dents their already negative net run rate.

Sai Kishore To Maheesh Theekshana OUT!
OUT! GONE! CAUGHT! Gujarat Titans win in a commanding fashion and this marks their sixth win over Rajasthan Royals in the IPL. Also, as per the on-air commentators, RR have been bowled out for the first time after May 2023. Coming to the delivery, Sai Kishore bowls flat and full, drifting into the leg stump line. Maheesh Theekshana charges ahead and tries to clear long off, but gets no real timing on it as he does not quite reach to the pitch of the ball. Airs it to long off, where the ball dips ahead of the fielder. Sai Sudharsan moves forward and snaffles a good low catch.

OUT! GONE! CAUGHT! Sai Kishore gets his first wicket of the evening and RR lose their 9th wicket! Prasidh Krishna To Shimron Hetmyer OUT!
OUT! IN THE AIR AND GONE! CAUGHT! The writing is on the wall for RR now as they lose their last hope in Shimron Hetmyer. Prasidh Krishna continues to hit the hard length, skidding onto the body, on the leg stump line. Shimron Hetmyer mistimes the pull shot, as the ball bounces a bit extra off the deck. Hettie hits it only as far as Sai Kishore stationed at deep backward square leg. Wicket number three for Prasidh Krishna. And a fine inning of 52 off 32 from the strong Caribbean comes to an end.

OUT! IN THE AIR AND THE SKIPPER TAKES IT THIS TIME! Hard length from Skiddy, skidding on the surface and coming off quickly on the batter, on top of middle, Jofra Archer finds the ball a bit high around his chest level but goes for the pull shot and ends up slicing it in the air. It lobs straight into the safe hands of Shubman Gill stationed at mid off. Rajasthan Royals continue to slip as they are 144/7 now.

The ball sneaks past the inside edge and hits Shubham on the front pad. There is no bat involved and the Ball Tracking comes up as three reds with the ball crashing into the off stump. Dubey takes a review with him, and RR slip further.

Rashid Khan To Shubham Dubey
Fuller-length delivery, on middle and leg, Dubey misses out on the flick. A big appeal from the bowler and keeper, but not given. They think of a review but don't take it in the end. Perhaps height was the issue there.
STRATEGIC BREAK. With the wicket of the dangerous-looking Sanju Samson, this is now RR's last recognised batting pair, with a long tail to follow. They still need 99 off the last 7 remaining overs, and they might feel they lost one too many wickets in the first half of the chase. The onus is now on the able shoulders of Shimron Hetmyer to bat till the end and get his team through the line. It is a tough, tough ask, though. While GT needs a couple of quick wickets to completely reign in their dominance on this game. Also, the fact that we haven't seen a single over from Sai Kishore as yet. Here's Rashid Khan (3-0-29-1) to continue after the break.

OUT! IN THE AIR AND TAKEN! Sai Sudharsan takes an excellent catch, and Rashid opens his arms wide with a relaxing smile on his face. He dishes out a googly, on a length, angling on the leg stump line, Dhruv Jurel rocks back into the crease and shapes up to pull it aerially. However, he does not get enough space to work with but still goes through his shot. Airs it only as far as Sai Sudharsan who takes a good low catch. Dhruv Jurel departs on 5 (4).

Kulwant Khejroliya To Dhruv Jurel
Back of a length on the middle stump, Dhruv Jurel defends it off the back foot, into the ground and starts running for a single. Sanju sends him back. The short mid-wicket fielder is quick enough to run forward, collect the ball and throw at the batting end. Jurel dives somehow and gets back. A direct hit and Jurel was gone.

Kulwant Khejroliya To Riyan Parag OUT!
OUT! Caught behind, or not? An appeal for the catch, and the finger is raised. GT's players are overjoyed, but Riyan Parag is going nowhere and has opted for a review, challenging the on-field decision. Too full, and going across off, Riyan Parag tries to drive through the covers but gets a thick outside edge. Jos Buttler takes a fine catch behind the wickets. UltraEdge shows a huge spike, but still, Parag looks disappointed as he believes that the spike came when the bat grazed the surface. But the decision has been made and Parag makes a slow walk back to the dugout. An important wicket for GT and Kulwant Khejroliya makes an impact straightaway.

Kulwant Khejroliya goes short, on middle, Sanju Samson pulls it off the back foot, in the gap between deep square leg and deep mid-wicket. Two runs taken.
STRATEGIC BREAK! The Powerplay was a tale of two halves, with the first half going GT's way, but the next 3 overs saw RR score 39 to finish on a high. Spotting the shift in momentum, Shubman Gill has smartly opted for the timeout at the first opportunity to break the flow and reset his plans. Sanju Samson and Riyan Parag are both looking in sublime touch, and for RR to chase this down, at least one of them will need to bat long. We haven’t seen any spin yet, but with the fielding restrictions now lifted, it shouldn’t be long before the spinners are brought into play. It will be pace after the break as Kulwant Khejroliya comes into the attack.

Arshad Khan To Sanju Samson
Did that come off the bat? Well, the replays do seem to indicate that there was a deflection, but we will have to wait for UltraEdge. Pushed across the right-hander, very full, Sanju looks to jam it out on the off side but misses. Jos Buttler takes it to his right and makes a polite enquiry, but it is turned down. Well, the UltraEdge does show bat involved, but it bounced off the turf before going to Jos.

Arshad Khan To Yashasvi Jaiswal OUT!
OUT! TAKEN! The plan comes to fruition for the Gujarat Titans! Yashasvi Jaiswal has picked out the fielder in the deep to perfection and he cannot quite believe it. Arshad serves it full and gets a hint of away movement. Jaiswal sees the width on offer and throws his hands at it. Does not bother to keep it along the ground, but neither does he get the desired power nor the gap. Hits it straight down the throat of Rashid Khan at deep point, who moves a bit to his left, and takes a reverse-cup catch around his face.
