Australia beat India by 4 wickets
Right then, that’s all from this one-sided contest, as Australia take a 1-0 lead in this five-match T20I series. The hosts will look to build on this momentum, while India will be eager to bounce back and draw level in the next game. The action now moves to the Ninja Stadium in Hobart for the 3rd T20I on 2nd November, Sunday. The match starts at 1.45 pm IST (8.15 am GMT), but do join us a bit earlier for all the pre-match build-up. Until then, cheers and goodbye!
Mitchell Marsh, the victorious skipper of Australia, says that it was a good toss to win as there was a bit of moisture. Adds that his bowlers bowled extremely well. Also says that he was a bit nervous when he was about to cross the 2000-run mark. But he was fortunate enough as Head took off the pressure, and he reckons that they are in for a good three games now.
Suryakumar Yadav, the captain of India, says that Josh Hazlewood bowled excellently in the Powerplay, and credit goes to him. Adds that when you are 4 down early, it is hard to recover. Mentions that Abhishek Sharma knows what his game is, and hopefully, he does not change it and helps them win as many games as possible. Ends by saying that they need to bat well in the next game and put the runs on the board and then defend it if they are setting a total.
Josh Hazlewood is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for his superb spell with the ball. He says that the ball was moving nicely from his hand, and he capitalized on it. Adds that their plan was to keep it simple, and it worked perfectly well. Also says that he is very happy to perform against a tough team and in front of 80 thousand people. Tells that Bartlett and Ellis have been great additions to the team, and they will soon have a lot of pacers who will fight for the spots. Ends up saying that he is going back, and he will rest a bit and then prepare for the Shield Game before the Ashes.
Presentation Time...
India simply didn’t have enough runs on the board for their bowlers to create any real pressure. Jasprit Bumrah bowled well with the new ball, but early wickets were what they desperately needed and couldn’t get. Kuldeep Yadav took some punishment in his first over but bounced back nicely to claim a couple of wickets, while Varun Chakaravarthy continued his good form with two of his own. Bumrah returned in his second spell and struck twice in two balls - one of the few positives to take from the game. However, the batters will need to step up if India are to challenge a quality side like Australia.
Earlier in the game, India were skittled out for a paltry 125. Abhishek Sharma was the lone warrior, playing a fine knock of 68 off 37 balls, while Harshit Rana chipped in with some handy runs down the order. Apart from these two, none of the other batters could even reach double figures, resulting in a disappointing scorecard. Josh Hazlewood was brilliant with the new ball, finishing with three wickets, while Xavier Bartlett and Nathan Ellis picked up a couple each, and Marcus Stoinis added one to his name.
While chasing, the Australian openers got off to a flying start in the Powerplay, putting on 51 runs for the first wicket and virtually sealing the game early on. Mitchell Marsh played in his typical aggressive style, taking on the bowlers and racing towards the target before falling for 46. Josh Inglis also contributed some handy runs, though they would have preferred to finish with more wickets in hand after slipping from 112/3 to 124/6. Nevertheless, it was a thoroughly dominant performance overall.
A comfortable win for Australia as they draw first blood in the series! This also marks their first T20I victory over India at the MCG since 2008. The hosts were dominant right from the outset, outplaying India in every department and never letting them settle. A tough defeat for the No. 1-ranked side, who will have plenty to reflect on before the next game.

Jasprit Bumrah To Matthew Short OUT!
OUT! CASTLED! Jasprit Bumrah on a Hat-Trick! This is exceptional from Bumrah. He nails a yorker, right into the blockhole, on off and middle. Matthew Short drops his bat low to jam it away, but he fails to get it down in time. The ball goes under the bat and rattles the middle stump. Short goes back for a golden duck. Australia are just not able to get over the line here.

Jasprit Bumrah To Mitchell Owen OUT!
OUT! EDGED AND TAKEN! Jasprit Bumrah gets his name written on the wicket list! He bowls it on a hard length, around the seventh stump. Mitchell Owen looks to lash it away the cover region, but the ball gets a slight nick on the outer edge. Bumrah and Samson, behind the stumps, appeal with a lot of confidence, but initially, the umpire signals nothing. However, after taking some time to make his decision, he raises his finger. Mitchell Owen opts for a review, but the UltraEdge shows a clear spike when the ball passes the outside edge of the blade.

OUT! LBW! Optimum usage of the review! India gets their fourth wicket! Short of a length, on leg. Josh Inglis rocks back to drive it toward mid on, but he gets cramped for room, and the ball hits his pad. After appealing, the umpire remains unmoved. India goes for the review.  UltraEdge shows no bat involvement, and the Ball Tracking shows that the ball pitches just in line and hits the top of the leg stump. Australia lose another wicket!
