CLT20: Titans humble Sunrisers Hyderabad at Ranchi
South African Twenty20 runners-up Titans beat the Sunrisers Hyderabad by 8 wickets in Ranchi in a Group B tie.
Titans won the toss and put the Sunrisers Hyderabad in to bat at the Jharkhand State Cricket Association stadium in Ranchi. Parthiv Patel, along with Shikhar Dhawan, took the Hyderabad off to a blazing start, scoring 26 runs from 24 balls with the help of two sixes and two fours. Patel was particularly lethal against Morne Morkel and hammered the South African pacer for a six over extra cover and mid-wicket. (All BCCI images)
Dhawan seemed to continue with his good form, but could not go past 37 from 21 balls. Dhawan hit a total of 7 fours and a six in his breezy knock. Dhawan and Parthiv shared a 62-run stand for the opening wicket in just 39 balls.
But what hit the Hyderabad side was David Wiese, who put the breaks in the innings by picking up three wickets. The right-arm medium pacer dismissed both the Sunrisers openers.
The third wicket to be taken by Wiese was Hanuma Vihari, who was brilliantly caught by Henry Davids (seen in pic). Davids ran backwards from mid-wicket, after Vihari miscued a pull, to pull off a stunning running catch.
Dale Steyn, with his lusty hits in his final over, took the Hyderabad team to a fighting total. Steyn hit Marchant de Lange for two fours and two sixes in the 20th over.
Titans skipper Henry Davids meant business straightaway in the 146-run chase, scoring 64 from 42 balls with the help of 7 fours and 4 sixes. He became the first Titans' player to manage 300 runs in the CLT20 - his tally being 317 in seven innings at an average of 52.83. He is the only one to register four fifties for Titans in the CLT20.
Rudolf, who shared a 112-run match winning opening stand with Davids, batted through the innings and was unlucky to miss out on a well-deserved half-century. Rudolf remained unbeaten on 49 and took Titans to an 8-wicket win, their biggest win in terms of wickets in CLT20.
