CLT20 2013: Rahane, Tambe take Rajasthan into final
Ajinkya Rahane's third consecutive fifty and Pravin Tambe's timely wickets give Rajasthan Royals a 14-run victory over 2010 champions Chennai Super Kings in the first semifinal at Jaipur.
Put in to bat, Rajasthan Royals scored 159/8 in their 20 overs with the help of Ajinkya Rahane's fifty. In reply, Chennai could only manage 145/8, losing the match by 14 runs. R Ashwin top scored for CSK with 46 but Man of the Match Pravin Tambe stole the show with his 3/10. (All BCCI pictures)
Chris Morris was right on target as he removed Rahul Dravid early on to put Chennai Super Kings in charge. he ended up with two wickets.
But Ajinkya Rahane had other plans as he notched up his 16th T20 fifty - third in-a-row - to lead Rajasthan Royals to a strong total. He scored 70.
Rahane and Shane Watson (32) were involved in a 59-run stand. Watson was dismissed by Chris Morris.
Jason Holder also picked up a couple of wickets and was also brilliant on the field as he took two catches.
Dwayne Bravo went wicketless in his first three overs was simply outstanding in the final over as he picked three wickets to finish at 3/26.
In reply to Rajasthan Royals' 159/8, Chennai Super Kings never had a good start. Mike Hussey and Murali Vijay were run out and then CSK lost too many batsmen in the middle overs.
Suresh Raina played a good hand but was under tremendous pressure as he lost out on partners. He too played a loose shot to bring an end to his 29-run knock.
Ravichandran Ashwin almost took the game away from Rajasthan Royals with his blistering 46-run knock. Together with Chris Morris (26 not out), he added 73 runs from 55 balls.
But the day belonged to Rajasthan Royals and Pravin Tambe. He picked up wickets a regular intervals and finished with 3/10 to bag the Man of the Match award. CSK could only manage 145/8.
