President Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday congratulated Vijender Singh on clinching the WBO Asia Pacific Super Middleweight title, saying that the star boxer has made the country proud with his feat.
Vijender scored a dominating win over Welsh-born Australian Kerry Hope in a 10-round bout in Delhi on Saturday.
The victory propelled him to the 15th spot in the WBO rankings and he will have to defend his title in the next two months. It was the seventh straight victory for Vijender in his pro-boxing career, having won his six previous bouts on knockouts.
