Top seed K Srikanth survived a scare before prevailing over Denmark's Emil Holst in a three-game match to reach the quarterfinals of the USD 120,000 Swiss Grand Prix Gold badminton championship in Basel.
The World No. 4 Indian recovered from a one-game deficit to see off Holst, ranked 57th in the world, 14-21 21-15 21-18 in a battle that lasted one hour and seven minutes at the St Jakobshalle stadium here last night.
The 22-year-old from Andra Pradesh will next take on eighth seeded Japanese Takuma Ueda. Srikanth, thus, joined Ajay Jayaram in the quarterfinals and will play their respective matches later in the day.
It was curtains for 12th seed B Sai Praneeth after the Indian went down to seventh seed Hsu Jen Hao of Chinese Taipei 18-21 12-21 in another pre-quarterfinal match.
