World No. 2 badminton star Saina Nehwal will soon have a biopic being made on her, which will be directed by Amole Gupte of 'Taare Zameen Par' fame. This comes after biopics on Mary Kom and Milkha Singh received huge success. (Saina Nehwal Lone Bright Spot For Indian Badminton, in a Subdued Season)
Though the star-cast of the movie has not yet been finalised but it has been learnt that either Deepika Padukone or Alia Bhatt may play Saina's character. (Prakash Padukone Urges Saina Nehwal to Consider Sports Psychologist to Succeed in Rio Olympics)
Gupte said the Saina-biopic will be different as it is the story of a "tigress beti".

Noting the biopic is going to trace the journey of the first Indian to win a medal in Badminton at the Olympics, Gupte said: "This film is going to trace Saina's pulsating journey on her way to the top of the sports pyramid."
"How many times have we encountered either a male or a female Indian get No. 1 ranking in a world sport? None - except Saina Nehwal. That makes it different, doesn't it? It's a story of a 'tigress beti', 'princess beti' who has set fire to the badminton court with her prowess like no one else before," added Gupte, after meeting Saina in Hyderabad.
"The nation needs to know the story of the 'World number 1 beti' - an icon for the young and the old, for a long time to come."
Earlier, legendary runner Milkha Singh was portrayed in 'Bhaag Milkha Bhaag', while Olympic medallist boxer Mary Kom had a film made on her by her own name 'Mary Kom.' Films on Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Mohammad Azharuddin are also in the pipeline.
Saina Nehwal had a brilliant 2015, which saw her reach the No.1 ranking, the first Indian to achieve the feat. Saina, India's only shuttler to win an Olympic medal, also became the first from the country to win a silver medal at the World Championship.
