Mumbai:
Putting up an all-court performance, Anand outclassed his PSPB colleague Kashyap 21-11 21-12 in 30 minutes in the men's singles semi-final on the Cricket Club of India's refurbished court.
In final on Sunday he would meet Mumbai-born Air India shuttler, fourth seed Anand Pawar, who took slightly longer to subdue his semi-final opponent, seventh seed Guru Sai Dutt of Andhra Pradesh 21-12 21-14.
In women's final, fifth seed Neha Pandit of Maharashtra, who scalped top seed Aditi Mutatkar in a morning quarterfinal clash and then ousted sixth seed Gayatri Vartak in final-four match, will cross sword with national champion Sayali Gokhale.
Neha outclassed Gayatri 21-8 21-13 while Sayali got the better of a fighting, unseeded Trupti Murgunde of PSPB 21-19 14-21 21-18 in a 70-minute affair.
Pawar and Dutt, who finally stopped the splendid run of state-mate K Tanishaq in the morning quarter-final 21-10 21-13, level-pegged for the better part of the second game before the former stepped up the pace from 13-all and raced to victory. The match lasted for 38 minutes.
The other semi-final between Chetan and Kashyap was a lop-sided affair as the former never gave his rival any chance to settle down, firing smashes interspersed with drops and flat shots.
"I was moving better from the beginning unlike in the morning when I lost focus and lost the opening game and then recovered," Chetan said. He expected a tougher time against Pawar with whom he practises regularly when the duo are abroad.
"We know each other's strengths and weaknesses. I have not lost to him since 2006 (in Mumbai). I would try and put him and pressure", he said.
Pawar too knows he needs to raise his game a couple of notches to get the better of Chetan against whom he squandered match points in the Belgian Open and in the Goa nationals (team championship).
"I'm playing well and I hope I can win if it comes to those sort of situations again when I was up 20-19", he said.
