"This win is definitely special because I was injured and couldn't play for more than four months," Sindhu said. "I want to maintain the rhythm in the tournament, and want to go further."
This is infact the second time in her career that Sindhu has got the better of the Chinese, the first being in 2012 at the China Masters Super Series.
Sindhu, the only Indian to win consecutive medals at the World Championships, looked in good nick from the word go against Li, taking a 5-1 lead in the opening game. The Chinese did make a comeback to make it 16-17, but the Hyderabadi took the next three points to seal the game. The second game belonged completely to Li, the World No. 3 used all her experience against her younger opponent to win 21-14. It was in the decider though that Sindhu was in top form. After an 11-6 lead to the Indian, the Chinese did fight back to make it 14-14. But four points on the trot helped Sindhu open up an 18-14 lead, and eventually help Sindhu seal her spot in the last eight.
For that, the 20 year old will first have to get the better of 8th seed Hyun ji Sung of South Korea in the quarter final.
