Thiruvananthapuram:

India's Olympian sprinter Chitra K Soman tied the nuptial knot with Sachin Lal, an environmental engineer working in Sydney, at a ceremony held at Kottayam.

Family sources said the marriage followed a six year-long acquaintance between the two, after Chitra's visit down-under for an international event.

The wedding was held at Mattakkara High School yesterday, where the athlete had studied, in the presence of family and friends.

Chitra finished seventh in 4x400 metres relay at the 2004 Athens Olympics, together with Satti Geetha, K M Beenamol and Rajwinder Kaur. She was also a part of the Indian team that won a silver medal at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne.
