It was Kerala Blasters, though, that held the upper hand when it came to stats.

The team from South India held 57 percent of the possession and had more shots on target as well.

But all that came down to nothing as the Spanish midfielder scored the all important goal to start NorthEast United FC's campaign on a winning note.

NorthEast United FC host Atletico de Kolkata at home Oct 16 while Kerala Blasters FC will hope to notch their first win when they take on Chennaiyin FC Oct 21.

Full time!

NorthEast United FC have definitely given their fans, who came in large numbers, a lot to cheer about. They went up in the wee minutes of the first half, courtesy a calm finish by the Spaniard, Koke. Kerala Blasters FC did make a few chances but failed to capitalize on them. Chopra, the substitute, failed to convert good passes and get the score even. The home side were positive till the end and did not get bogged down with the onslaught. All in all, NorthEast United FC have come out with flying colors and secured 3 points in their opener.

Andrew Nikolas Barisic takes a smart throw from the side line, dissecting the defense. Iain Hume goes for it but whacks it wide. That was the last chance to salvage a point out of this game. They did make chances but failed to convert it.

Dong Hyun Do makes a brilliant run and pierces the defense apart. James comes charging out of the box to find the number 26 chipping it over him, The ball hits the post and comes towards Dong Hyun Do who sends it way above the cross bar.

Chopra misses it again!

Iain Hume once again gets involved in the play and puts in a brilliant ball across the face of the defense for Chopra who gets to it and tries to scuff it with his outer foot. He does so but straight into the keepers chest.

Chopra and Keene were exchanging some heated words in the middle. Clearly, Chopra is frustrated after missing out on a couple of easy chances.

Alexandros Tzorvas slips while taking the goal kick and inturn rolls it towards Chopra. The Kerala forward was alert there but fired it wide. A couple of chances gone down rather too easily.

That was their golden chance!

That was the closes Kerala could get. Hume receives a header inside the box. He is a tad inbalanced as he tries to lob the ball over the keeper. Alexandros Tzorvas gets fingertips to it but the ball is cleared by Robin Gurung. The danger is not cleared as of now as the ball went straight on to Chopra's who smashes this low on, along the turf, but finds David Ngaihte. NorthEast United FC were lucky as they had enough bodies behind to block the major part of the goal.

Dong Hyun Do dribbles and dribbles more from the right flank to get away from numerous defenders. Fakes a shot couple of times before taking it finally. The shot is a good one but is deflected by the defender over the cross bar. The corner was a poor one and is easily cleared off.

His teammate was standing behind the defender, Aibor Khongjee as he kneels it over the post. The corner was a good and curling one but Cedric Hengbart cannot head it with power resulting in an easy save for the goaliee.

Iain Hume reads a terrific through ball to perfection and crosses it flat inside, towards the face of the goal, with his right foot. The defender obstructs the ball but finds Avinabo Bag who takes the shot but is deflected for a corner. The corner is a mediocre one and is cleared away by ease. That looked promising though!
