Mamata Pujari, skipper of the Indian women's team that won the Kabaddi World Cup in Patna, today expressed happiness at the triumph and hoped that the game is included in the Olympics.
"Kabaddi should be included in the Olympics. The Indian women's team is confident of doing well," said Pujari, who works for the Railways in Hyderabad.
Recalling the victory, she said the tournament featuring 16 countries was very competitive as all the teams posed a tough challenge.
The event attracted huge crowds with hundreds of spectators waiting outside the venue due to unavailability of space inside the stadium, Pujari said.
The Amateur Kabaddi Federation of India and the authorities supported the team well, she added.
The Federation's general secretary K Jagadishwar Yadav said efforts were on to get the game included in the 2020 Olympics.
A presentation will be made to the International Olympic Committee in Switzerland later this year in this regard, he added.
The MD of Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh (SAAP) TRK Rao assured all possible help from the government for promoting kabaddi in the state.
