India will be sending their largest contingent ever to the Olympics as they send over 100 athletes for the 2016 Games beginning in Rio de Janeiro on August 5.
The target for India will be to better their tally of six in the 2012 London Olympics, which has been their best tally ever when it comes to medals. They won two silver and four bronze medals. India secured two medals in wrestling, shooting as well as one medal in boxing and badminton.
This time, India are projected to win a bronze and silver medal in the 2016 Rio Games, according to a projection done by Associated Press.
It projected that Sania Mirza and Rohan Bopanna could win the Bronze medal in the mixed doubles event in Tennis while Jitu Rai could win the 50m pistol silver medal. India's wrestling hopes have been dashed with the uncertainty of Narsingh Yadav's participation in the Rio Games due to failed dope tests.
India's mens and women's hockey team, have arrived in Rio Olympics along with the Archery team. The men's team, who won the silver medal in the Champions Trophy, will be aiming to break their 46-year Olympic jinx in the sport, having last won a medal in the 1980 Moscow Olympics.
