Heena Sidhu failed to qualify for the final of the 10m air pistol event as she finished in 14th position. Later in the day, Manavjit Sandhu and Kynan Chenai finished 17th and 19th respectively in men's trap Day 1 qualifier. 17:46 hrs IST: Another round of 9 in the first series and Sidhu is currently in 31st position. Top eight position looks a long way away.
17:44 hrs IST: Another shot of 9 and Sidhu has now gone down to 25th position. If she continues in this vein, she is out.

After Jitu Rai's flop show on the opening day of the 2016 Rio Olympics, India's hopes now rest on Heena Sidhu in the 10m Air Pistol event and on Manajit Singh Sandhu in the trap qualification event.
Sidhu, who is the 2013 World Cup gold medalist, will be aiming for a strong show while Manavjit, who is a two-time World Cup gold medalist, will be aiming to turn India's fortunes in the trap qualification, an event that India has never done well in. All eyes will also be on Kynan Chenai, who had won gold in the 2008 Commonwealth Youth Games event.
Barring shooting, India's women's hockey team will be in action for the first time in the Olympics after 36 years. They will take on Japan and they will be hoping to start off on a good note, much like how the men's hockey team did after winning their opening game against Ireland. Dipa Karmakar will also be in action later in the evening along with the archery team
