Ishan Kishan boosted his T20 World Cup selection hopes with a brisk 69 off just 34 balls for Mumbai Indians (MI) in their IPL 2024 match against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). Prior to this encounter, Kishan had scored just 92 runs in four matches and his knock against RCB will certainly boost his confident for the rest of the season. A fan, however, had an interesting auction related question for former SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) head coach Tom Moody that involved the name of Kishan.
The fan asked Moody whether he regrets for not bidding more than 15 crore for Kishan during the IPL 2022 mega auction.
For the unversed, Kishan was released by MI ahead of IPL 2022 mega auction. However, the five-time champions bought him once again at the auction table, this time for a whopping Rs 15.25 crore sum.
MI were involved in a bidding war with SRH for Kishan, but the 2016 champions pulled out of race after the bidding crossed the Rs 15 crore mark.
"Does Tom regret not going for Ishan Kishan for more than 15 crore in the auction for SRH," the fan asked him during a discussion on ESPNcricinfo.
Moody, who was at the table for SRH that day, came up with a hilarious response to tackle the fans query.
"Gentleman, I wasn't holding the paddle," Moody replied.
Meanwhile, Kishan needs a strong performance in this season's IPL to regain the faith of the selectors.
He was recently let go off his BCCI central contract over his reluctance to play in the Ranji Trophy.
This came after Kishan had pulled out of the South Africa Tests last year, citing fatigue.
The 25-year-old was not considered for any of the subsequent national assignments, and India head coach Rahul Dravid had urged Kishan to play domestic cricket to make his comeback.
Speaking on his T20 World Cup selection chances, Kishan recently said: "It is not in my hands and I am taking things very easy right now. You have to take one match at a time. One needs to understand that a lot is not in the hands of the players."
