England defeated India by eight wickets in the first T20I of their five-match series, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. In response to a target of 125 runs, the visitors scored 130 for two in 15.3 overs, with Dawid Malan hitting the winning six. The visitors put in a good start to the chase, with Jason Roy narrowly missing out on a half-century. He slammed 49 runs off 32 deliveries, packed with four fours and three sixes. Meanwhile, Jos Buttler also made a noteworthy contribution, adding 28 runs to the scoreboard. Malan (24) and Jonny Bairstow (26) remained unbeaten for England, taking them past the finishing line. Yuzvendra Chahal and Washington Sundar were the only bowlers to take a wicket each for India, in an otherwise bad day for Indian bowlers. Initially, the hosts had scored 124 for seven in 20 overs, with Shreyas Iyer registering a half-century (67 off 48 balls). For England, Jofra Archer took three wickets. Meanwhile, Adil Rashid, Mark Wood, Chris Jordan and Ben Stokes registered a wicket each. England have taken a 1-0 lead in the T20I series, and both sides will meet again in the next fixture on March 14.
