Mohammed Siraj erupted in joy after his batting partner Ravichandran Ashwin got to his fifth Test hundred on Day 3 of the second Test between India and England in Chennai. A video posted by Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) showed both Siraj and Ashwin pumping their fists in the air and celebrating Ashwin's milestone - this was also the third instance of Ashwin getting a 100 and a five-wicket haul in the same match. "A moment to cherish forever! @ashwinravi99 gets his Test 100 in Chennai and Md. Siraj erupts in joy. The dressing room stands up to applaud," BCCI tweeted.
Ashwin's hundred was cheered on by the Indian dressing room as well, as the cricketer got his first Test hundred at his home ground of MA Chidambaram Stadium.
The whole of Indian contingent gave a standing applause to Ashwin on this feat even as India built a massive second-innings lead and made big strides in their bid to level the four-match series.
Ashwin finished with 106 runs to his name with 14 fours and a six in an innings that lasted 148 balls.
The 33-year-old was also involved in a 96-run stand with India captain Virat Kohli, who scored 62 off 149, to help India recover form 106 for 6.
Ashwin displayed tremendous control over his shots, playing the sweeps, cuts, pulls and lofted drives with panache, and helped India build a 481-run lead in the second innings.
India trail England 1-0 in the series. The visitors had won the first Test, also in Chennai, by 227 runs.
