The Indians took to the field sans their pace spearhead in Zaheer Khan who was kept out of the day's action due to a reported hamstring strain.

Kevin Pitersen and Jonathan Trott took off from where they had been force to leave the previous day due to consistent rain, and England managed to keep the score ticking without much fuss.

In the absence of Zaheer, the mantle of opening the bowling fell on Ishant Sharma and Praveen Kumar.
Zoom
The first success of the day for the visitors went to Praveen as he trapped a dangerous Trott in front of the wicket to end his innings on 70.

There was no stopping Pietersen though as he looked intent on consolidating on a solid foundation. He brought up his 24th Test half-century with the help of six boundaries.

Ian Bell on the other end gave good support to KP and despite numerous bowling changes between spin and seam, managed to occupy the crease.

Though the rate of scoring was slow for most parts, the opening session saw a few aerial shots towards its end as England took lunch at 217 for 3.

The second session of play was started by MS Dhoni opening the bowling. Surprisingly to most, he put Pietersen in trouble from the very first delivery.
Zoom
A caught behind decision went in Dhoni's favour but Pietersen asked for a review and was declared safe eventually.
Zoom
Pietersen eventually went on to bring up his century, a valient effort that took him 216 deliveries.
Zoom
There was another hero in the making here. It was Praveen Kumar. The seamer finally managed to remove Ian Bell (45) and returned to dislodge Eoin Morgan on a duck.
Zoom
Pietersen held his own despite the setbacks and took England to tea at 305 for 5.
Zoom
Matt Prior came out with KP in the final session of play and gave him solid support. He brought up his fifty and struck together a 120-run partnership with him.
Zoom
Trust Praveen for a break-through though. He returned to get rid of Prior and picked up Stuart Broad to claim his first five-wicket haul in Tests.
Zoom
Reprieve was short-lived as KP thunder continued to lash at the Lord's and he completed his 150 off 301 deliveries to pile the runs for England.
Zoom
Once the milestone was reached, creative shots came out of his arsenal in full flow as he whipped the Indian bowling all across the ground.
Zoom
There was no getting Pietersen out although there were some close calls to raise India's hopes, only for them to shatter through each stroke to the boundary.
Zoom
Zaheer could be seen patrolling the boundary and using the stationary cycle but doubts on his return kept the Indian camp in blues.
Zoom
Lighter moments aside, India's blues finally culminated in a double-ton for KP as England declared the innings on 474/8. Openers Gambhir and Mukund remained unbeaten to reach a team score of 17/0.
