India beat Canada 3-2 in a Pool C tie on Saturday to keep their hopes alive of making it to the knock-out stage of the junior hockey World Cup.

Mandeep Singh scored the first goal for India in the 30th minute, bringing India level with Canada, who had opened the scoring at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium in New Delhi.

Gurjinder Singh (left) struck in the penultimate minute to give India the lead for the first time in the match. That made the scoreline 3-2 and gave India the hope of making it the quarters.

In other matches on Saturday, defending champions Germany thrashed Pakistan 6-1 thanks to a hat-trick by Christopher Ruhr (front).
