The Indian women's hockey team was off to a winning start in a four-Test series against Canada, beating the hosts 3-2 in the first match at Tamanawis Park, Surrey on Wednesday.
India led 1-0 at half time after captain Surinder Kaur scored from a penalty corner in the 15th minute.
Ritu Rani (53rd minute) and Rani Rampal (61st minute) were the other goal-scorers for the visiting team.
Thea Culley (41st minute) and Robyn Pewdleton (69th minute) reduced the margin of defeat for the hosts.
India earned three penalty corners, converting two of them.
The second Test in the series will be played at the same venue on Thursday.
