New Delhi:

India's start in the Tri-Nation invitational tournament at Santander (Spain) did not begin on an auspicious note as Great Britain registered a 3-1 win against the men in blue on Saturday.

Wet conditions prevailed at the start of the match and was regarded as being helpful for preparing for the London Olympics. India's start too was on an attacking note which helped the side open the scoring.

Shivendra Singh's deflection off a Tushar Khandekar cross was sublime. That it was on a counter-attack made it appear even more spectacular.

That however, is till when the Indian joy lasted. Great Britain managed to find the equaliser in the 17th minute when James Tindall's penalty corner found the back of the net. The teams went into the half-time on level terms.

The second-half was a different tale. British custodian James Fair managed to keep the Indian forwards out and Ashley Jackson put his team ahead with a 45th minute goal.

The score-line was put beyond India's reach in the 62nd minute when Harry Martin out-foxed the Indian defence and goal-keeper Bharat Chetri.

India will now play Spain on Wednesday.
