Auckland:

Australia beat the Netherlands 4-2 on Thursday to reach the final of the Champions Trophy men's field hockey tournament, moving one step closer to becoming the first team to win four consecutive titles.

Matt Gohdes scored two goals, and his cousin, Jamie Dwyer, and Chris Ciriello each had a goal for Australia.

Dwyer's goal was his seventh of the tournament and his 25th in Champions Trophy play, placing him third on Australia's all-time scoring list at the tournament behind Mark Hager (32) and Stephen Davies (28).

Australia has accumulated enough points to reach the final of the eight-team tournament for a record 13th time, even though it still has one match to play against New Zealand on Saturday.

Spain beat New Zealand 3-2 on Thursday and will now play the Netherlands for the other spot in the final.

Australia put the Netherlands under pressure from the outset, with Dutch goalkeeper Jaap Stockmann being forced to make several desperate saves early on before Ciriello put away a penalty corner late in the first half.

Billy Bakker got the equalizer for the Dutch in the 47th minute, but Gohdes scored three minutes later to put the Australians up 2-1 and then got his second goal late in the second half to make it a 3-1 advantage.

Dwyer put the Australians up 4-1 in the 64th minute before Valentin Verga connected for the Dutch in the final minute.

Brothers Ramon and David Alegre each scored goals for Spain, which twice came back from a goal deficit to beat New Zealand.

In consolation matches, Pakistan beat South Korea 6-2 for its first win of the tournament and Germany beat Britain 2-1.
