A sub-par card continues to elude Jeev Milkha Singh, who turned in two-over 74 in his penultimate round to slip a rung to tied 49th in the 91st PGA Championship golf tournament here.
With a 54-hole total of five-over 221, Jeev joined Fred Couples, Jim Furyk, Luke Donald, Justin Leonard and Jeff Overton at the 49th place and his quest for an automatic place in the Greg Norman-led International team for the Presidents Cup seems over since the Indian would require an improbable top-four finish for that.
In such a case, Jeev would pray for favour when Norman selects two captain's pick.
Jeev found going hard at the Hazeltine National Golf Club and the front nine proved a barren stretch that did not yield a single birdie while he dropped two shots on the fourth and eighth.
His back nine was relatively more eventful with Jeev managing to go even-par after 16 holes, courtesy three birdies intercepted by a bogey in between.
Things began to look better with two holes to go but Jeev eventually signed off with a bogey-bogey finish to register his third straight over-par card.
While Jeev is tipped to fetch Asia's first Major, Korean Yang Yong-eun seemed closer to the feat here after his superb five-under 67 to give himself a shot at creating golf history.
The two-time winner on Asian Tour moved into tied second place after the third round to lie two strokes back from world number one Tiger Woods of the United States.
Title holder Padraig Harrington of Ireland is also joint second going into the final round.
Yang's quest to deliver Asia's first Major title, however, will be a challenging one as Woods, who has won his last two tournaments, has never been beaten in the Majors when he has held the 54-hole lead.
