World champion Michael Schumacher turned 84 laps and set a lap record on Thursday at the company circuit of Fiorano as he continued development of the new Ferrari F2003-GA for the 2003 World Formula One Championship.Ferrari reported that Schumacher turned his fastest lap at the 2.076-km track in 56.807 seconds, faster than the previous record of 57.045 set by the world champion in the first day of tests on Tuesday.The lap record at Fiorano of the F2002 model, which captured 15 out of 17 championship races last year, was 57.476. On Wednesday, Schumacher could only turn a few laps after the car developed a problem in the hydraulic system.The new Ferrari, named after Fiat's late chairman Giovanni Agnelli, was launched in Maranello last Friday and is expected to make its debut in the fourth championship race - the San Marino Grand Prix - at Imola in April.Ferrari and other teams were expected to start the 2002 models in the initial races of the season, beginning with the Australian GP in Melbourne on March 9.
