The comeback kings!
OFC complete the comeback yet again in the Hero ISL 2022-23 and emerge victorious tonight in Kolkata. Having begun the first half on the front foot, EBFC opened the scoring in the 23rd minute of the game via Thongkhosiem Haokip's finish in front of the goal from a Suhair Vadakkepeedika cross. 12 minutes later, EBFC made it 2-0 when Naorem Singh slotted it home from another Suhair Vadakkepeedika assist. With two goals to the good at the break, EBFC looked poised to put the game beyond OFC’s reach. However, OFC had other plans as Pedro Martin scored twice inside the first three minutes of the second half to level the scores. OFC looked a completely different side post the equalizer and as a result, took the lead for the first time in the game when Jerry Mawihmingthanga’s diving header found the back of the net. Nandhakumar Sekar then doubled the lead for OFC from a Saul Crespo assist. EBFC failed to recover from the setback and as a result, came second in tonight’s fixture. With this victory OFC move up to 3rd on the points table.

Cleared away!!
Pritam Singh whips in a delicious ball inside the box from the left side. It takes a deflection on the way which makes it awkward for the keeper, Amrinder Singh to deal with but he keeps his calm and clears it away.
84'
No danger!
OFC try to break into a counter-attack but could not push men higher in a short time. Pedro Martin lacked support in the front and eventually the possession is lost. EBFC trying their best here to find the next goal, to give them a glimmer of hope.

EBFC are trying to push men forward now. They need two goal if they are to steal a point from this encounter. OFC have been solid since the start of the second half. They have been pressing well and it is certainly keeping EBFC at bay.

Unbelievable scenes as OFC complete the comeback and the home crowd is silenced. Nandhakumar Sekar does well to hold the ball deep on the left flank and no EBFC player tries to pressurize him. Denechandra Meitei makes an overlapping run and receives the ball from Nandhakumar. Meitei crosses it towards the far post with his left foot and it is an inch-perfect cross. Jerry Mawihmingthanga is once again left unmarked and hammers it home to make it 3-2 to OFC.

There for the taking
With about half an hour left, either side could claim all 3 points. OFC is the team that is pressing the issue at the moment and are creating good opportunities. This does leave the option of a quick counter-attack for EBFC. Will we see any further goals in this enthralling encounter?
57'
OFC in the ascendancy
After struggling in the first 45 minutes, the half-time changes have worked wonders for OFC so far. They have been able to press EBFC high up the field and bring the likes of Diego Mauricio and Pedro Martin into the thick of the action.

A thrilling first half!
An engrossing first half comes to a close, and EBFC lead 2-0 at the break. EBFC came out with a clear game plan and showed some positive signs straightaway. Having created a couple of chances in the first 20 minutes, EBFC went ahead in the 23rd minute of the game when Thongkhosiem Haokip finished a great counter-attack by slotting it home from a Suhair Vadakkepeedika assist. EBFC looked more threatening to double the lead, which they eventually did when Naorem Singh found the back of the net in the 35th minute from a Suhair Vadakkepeedika assist yet again. With two goals down, OFC did manage to create some chances but failed to convert them. The OFC manager needs to motivate his boys for the second half with some pep talk in the break. Will OFC inspire themselves to make a comeback in the game? We will find out after the break.

39'
Should have scored!
Raynier Fernandes wastes a golden opportunity to pull one back for OFC. OFC finally manage to conjure up a good attack as Nandhakumar Sekar is set free on the right edge of the box. Kamaljit Singh tries to put pressure on him but Nandhakumar is able to twist and turn and cross the ball towards the far post with his left foot. Raynier rises highest and gets plenty of power behind the header but misses the mark from a few yards out.
35'
GOOAALLL!
EBFC have their second and boy, they have completely deserved it. Charis Kyriakou does extremely well to win the ball in the middle of the park and it is a brilliant flick off his head by Cleiton Silva to set Suhair Vadakkepeedika free on the left flank. Suhair bursts inside the box and slides it across the face of the goal. Naorem Singh makes a good run and slides in to slot it past the keeper. The OFC defense was left gaping there.

Frantic stuff!
Narender Gahlot makes a good run down the right flank. Gahlot crosses it in towards the far post and Raynier Fernandes just looks to head back towards the middle. The ball does fall to Diego Mauricio but he cannot bring it down cleanly and EBFC manage to clear it out for a corner. Nothing comes of it though.
30'
Danger averted!
Ankit Mukherjee does not deal with the throw cleanly and concedes a corner. Sahil Panwar takes the resulting corner and finds the unmarked Narender Gahlot near the far post. The OFC defender fails to keep his shot on target and it sails way over the crossbar.

One-sided affair
EBFC have been dominating the proceedings so far. But they are unable to find any inspiration in the final third. OFC will aim to remain a solid unit at the back and not concede a goal until the break here.
15'
Into the hands of the keeper
OFC are digging a hole for themselves here. They were very close to giving away a goal here. Cleiton Silva is allowed to rush towards the goal with the ball at his feet. Amrinder Singh comes off his line to put some pressure on Silva, although it wasn't needed as Carlos Delgado get there in time to calm things down a bit.
13'
Top play
All starts with Suhair Vadakkepeedika winning the ball in the middle of the park. Jordan O'Doherty later sets up Mahesh on the left flank with an excellent long ball. Mahesh beats his man and whips in a low cross in the danger are where three of his team-mates were present, although none could get at the end of it as Osama Malik gets a some leg on the way to kill the pace and direction off it.
9'
Offside
EBFC keeping the ball with themselves. They are not letting OFC get a glance on goal here. Thongkhosiem Haokip tries to make a run towards the ball but is a bit early as the linesman raises his flag.

The Hero Indian Super League is known for its high-octane football and teams like East Bengal FC and Odisha FC have also played their active part in dishing out high-scoring humdingers. Scorelines like 6-4 and 6-5 have belonged to this fixture and there is every reason to expect something similar this evening. The games between these two teams have been quite close but in the last three outings, OFC have pocketed all the matches and hold the upper hand. Coming to the performance of these teams in the Hero ISL 2022-23, it has not been a fruitful start to their campaign with Odisha FC losing two games and East Bengal FC suffering four losses thus far. That said, EBFC edged out Bengaluru FC in their previous match and the morale in their camp will be sky-high. The last result handed East Bengal FC's backline some much-needed boost as it thwarted all the late attacks from BFC and earned its first clean sheet of the season. Odisha FC, on the other hand, had their 2-match winning streak broken at the hands of the defending champions Hyderabad FC and will be eager to bounce back. Josep Gombau, their head coach, has already emphasized the need to improve on the mistakes that OFC have become prone to committing and we can expect them to charge out with better planning and execution. They are lacking venom in the attacking third at the moment and it was one of the reasons for their defeat in the last game. The focus of OFC will be on fine-tuning all the critical areas as they take the field. A pulsating contest is on the cards.
Second Fixture Of Matchweek 7
East Bengal FC versus Odisha FC - Just the mention of this fixture, and we all start to smell plenty of goals. It's always a tasty battle between these two teams, and there is never a dull moment when they clash. So our Friday evening is sorted as EBFC and OFC, who are still trying to find their feet in the Hero ISL 2022-23, prepare to meet at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata. Make no other plans, you cannot afford to miss this contest.
