Awards
Chennaiyin FC collect the Club Award for edging out East Bengal FC this evening. Anirudh Thapa is given the Hero of the Match Award.
CFC edged out EBFC
CFC have got their second win of the season! They were the dominant team in the first half, but the best chances fell to EBFC, who could not make the most of them. At the start of the second half, CFC took the game to EBFC and showed their attacking quality. They created a lot of half-chances but were denied by some amazing goalkeeping from Kamaljit Singh. However, the addition of Himanshu Jangra was a breath of fresh air in the attack, but they were poor in the final third. CFC's pressure paid off when Vafa Hakhamaneshi scored a bullet header from a corner, but despite giving them the lead, he was shown a second yellow for taking off his shirt to show a message. EBFC had the man advantage for some time, but a few minutes later, Sarthak Golui committed a foul by elbowing Anirudh Thapa and saw his second yellow card as well. EBFC got a few opportunities at the end, but the CFC defense stood strong and did not allow anything on their goal. So, Chennaiyin FC get another away victory along with a clean sheet, and this will give them a lot of confidence going forward, while East Bengal FC have a lot of thinking to do and must come back with a better performance.

CFC holding on!
CFC are keeping the ball in the corner and are trying to keep their lead intact. They will be having one eye on the clock and these are nervy moments. One insurance goal can calm things down in their camp. Can they get it?
84'
Easy save!
Jerry Lalrinzuala gets the ball outside the box and whips in a cross inside the box where Himanshu Jangra tries the header but fails to get any power on it as Debjit Majumder mops it up.
81'
EBFC on the attack!
Jordan O'Doherty puts in a good cross inside the box, but a CFC defender clears it away for a corner. However, nothing comes from the corner.
75'
Red card for EBFC as well!
Sarthak Golui gets a second yellow and now he is sent off as well. Anirudh Thapa was on the line trying to cut and Sarthak Golui stops him with his elbow. The referee wastes no time and he shows him a second yellow. Both the teams are down to 10 men now!

Chance for EBFC!
A good attempt but it goes over the crossbar. Jerry Lalrinzuala puts a cross from the left flank. Cleiton Silva chests it towards Charis Kyriakou who shoots a volley. It goes over the crossbar.
54'
Brilliant goalkeeping
Anirudh Thapa takes a strong throw-in from the right side and loops it up towards Prasanth Karuthadathkuni who is left unmarked inside the box. Prasanth sprints forward, takes a touch and then pulls the trigger but Kamaljit Singh dives in his path and punches it out of danger. CFC are knocking at the door here.
50'
Hits it wide
Rahim Ali fails to keep the shot in the frame. Aakash Sangwan takes the corner kick from the right and serves it in the middle of the box. It has been cleared but loosely falls to Rahim Ali at the edge of the box who takes the shot but it's wide of the target. CFC have started as the brighter side but are not clinical in front of the goal.
49'
Strong defending
Yet another attacking move from CFC. This time Ajith Kumar has the ball with him in the right flank and swings it inside the box. One of the CFC players put in a run but Ivan Gonzalez does well to intercept and pushes it out for a corner.
47'
Excellent cross
CFC try to develop a move from the left flank. Rahim Ali gathers the ball at the edge of the box and fires in a cross inside the box. Anirudh Thapa though fails to anticipate the move and is late to rush forward. Another golden chance goes begging.
46'
Substitution
There's a half-time substitution. EBFC have brought in Himanshu Jangra in place of Naorem Singh who was not at his best in the first half.

46'
Resumption
We're back and all set to resume. EBFC will get the first touch on the ball and will be attacking from right to left. There were plenty of chances created in the first half but without the end product. Will the picture change in the second 45? Let's find out.
A cagey affair
A tight and engrossing half comes to a close and the scoreline stays 0-0. Both EBFC and CFC began the game with some intent and created a few chances early on. However, neither side was able to capitalise on those chances and take an early lead. CFC were forced to make a change when Narayan Das pulled up clutching his hamstring and he was replaced by Aakash Sangwan. Despite having a fair share of the possession, CFC were unable to break the deadlock. EBFC's best chance of the first half came in the 21st minute when Suhair Vadakkepeedika dragged his shot wide. There was a similar opportunity for Cleiton Silva as well when the star striker was through on goal but only to scuff his shot and send it wide of the far post. The last ten minutes of the first half saw both sides upping the tempo. It will be interesting to see how the second half unfolds.
45'
Half-time
There goes the half-time whistle and it is all square at the break.
45'
Added time!
The referee has indicated two minutes of added time at the end of the half.
42'
Heated scenes
Tension in the EBFC box as Kamaljit Singh is down in pain. Fallou Diagne plays a long ball towards Rahim Ali who fails to control it properly inside the box and Kamaljit Singh sweeps it up. However, as Rahim Ali goes past him it seemed like he has stomped on the keeper's hand. Lalchungnunga rushes towards Rahim Ali and both of them have a heated argument. The referee resolves the matter after having a quiet word with both the players.
40'
Heads it wide!
Ajith Kumar shows his pace on the right wing and puts in a floating ball inside the box, Rahim Ali leaps for the header but puts it well wide of the target. Both teams have been quite ordinary in front of the goal.
36'
What a miss!
Cleiton Silva misses a golden opportunity! EBFC clear a high ball towards the CFC box where Vafa Hakhamaneshi slips and allows Cleiton Silva to go through one-on-one with the keeper, but in the end, Silva drags his shot wide of the far post. A striker of his class should have done better.
34'
Brilliant save!
Kamaljit Singh keeps EBFC in the game! Anirudh Thapa controls the ball inside the box a takes a powerful low shot towards the goal, but Kamaljit Singh dives to his left and deflects it away for a corner. Nothing comes from the set-piece as well.
33'
Great move from CFC!
Aakash Sangwan receives the ball on the left side and nutmegs Sarthak Golui to fire a cross in the box but Petar Sliskovic cannot get the right connection and puts it way over the goal. Need to do better than this!
29'
Cleared away!
Suhair Vadakkepeedika once again gets the ball on the right flank and tries to play a low cross towards Cleiton Silva but Ajith Kumar clears it away for a throw-in. The CFC defense is standing tall and cancelling all the attacking moves from EBFC.
26'
Good defending from CFC!
Suhair Vadakkepeedika plays a loopy ball inside the box but Fallou Diagne reads it well and heads it up in the air as Debjit Majumder collects it safely. It remains goalless in this half.
24'
Early substitution!
A forced change for CFC. Narayan Das seems to have pulled his hamstring. The physio has a look and unfortunately for CFC, Das is unable to continue. Aakash Sangwan replaces him.
24'
Substitution
Substitution - Chennaiyin FC (In: Aakash Sangwan, Out: Narayan Das)
21'
Counter from EBFC!
A great counter-attack from EBFC and Suhair Vadakkepeedika should have scored this one. Cleiton Silva gets the ball near the half line. He plays a sumptuous through ball from between the defenders to find the run of Suhair Vadakkepeedika who takes a touch and shoots it from the right edge of the box as Debjit Majumder dives in his path. It goes just wide of the target. This was by far the best chance of this half.
18'
Desperation from CFC
CFC hold the maximum possession in the game so far. They are looking to get forward and cut down EBFC's defense but are unable to find any openings.
13'
Safe game so far
We haven't had any of the dangerous attacks in the game so far as both the teams are playing safe. They are happy to move the ball around in the defense and not concede any early goal.
10'
Clever move
Anirudh Thapa is once again with the ball and he nudges it forward to set Petar Sliskovic free inside the box. Petar sprints forward, the angle is narrow but he still goes for it and hits it wide. A good move developed but the end result was not the desirable one for CFC.
8'
Pushed down
Anirudh Thapa is served the ball inside the box but Suhair Vadakkepeedika rushes from behind and pushes him down. No protest from CFC there! There was definitely some touch from Suhair.
7'
Offside
Naorem Singh stands up to take a free kick from the right flank. He sends across a deep ball but Thongkhosiem Haokip is found to be in an offside position. Debjit Majumder though took no chance and came off his line to punch it out.
5'
Yellow Card
Yellow Card - East Bengal FC : Sarthak.G
5'
Foul
A loose pass is played on the right side of the field. Julius Duker gets there first but is fouled by a rash tackle from Sarthak Golui. The referee blows the whistle. Golui is quick to apologize to Duker.
2'
Early move
EBFC win a free kick and it's served inside the box. The CFC defense stands tall to avert the initial danger. However, the ball once again finds it way in as Suhair Vadakkepeedika loops it towards Jordan O'Doherty inside the box who looks to cross but once again one of the CFC defenders makes the clearance.
1'
Let's Football
All in readiness now! CFC get the first touch on the ball and they will operate from right to left in this half. Both Chennaiyin FC and East Bengal FC have opted for a 4-4-2 formation this evening. Let's Football.
Toss
The coin goes up and lands in favor of CFC. They will attack from right to left in the first half.
National Anthem
We aren't far away from the action now. Both teams make their way out in the middle and line up for the Indian national anthem.
Chennaiyin FC (Starting XI)
Debjit Majumder (GK), Fallou Diagne, Vafa Hakhamaneshi, Ajith Kumar, Narayan Das, Anirudh Thapa (C), Julius Duker, Y. Jiteshwor Singh, Prasanth Karuthadathkuni, Petar Sliskovic, Rahim Ali.
East Bengal FC (Starting XI)
Kamaljit Singh (C/GK), Ivan Gonzalez, Lalchungnunga, Sarthak Golui, Jerry Lalrinzuala, Charis Kyriakou, Jordan O'Doherty, Thongkhosiem Haokip, Naorem Singh, Suhair Vadakkepeedika, Cleiton Silva.
An intense battle on the cards!
We have a tasty battle coming up. East Bengal FC have had a shaky defense, conceding eight goals in four matches. However, their goalkeeper Kamaljit Singh has been excellent and impressed one and all with his skills. Cleiton Silva has been a vital cog in East Bengal FC's final third. He leads the goal-scoring charts for them with two goals from four matches. The hosts have a strong midfield in the form of Souvik Chakrabarti, Jordan O'Doherty and Alexandre Lima, who need to bring their A game when they face Chennaiyin FC. On the other hand, CFC have certainly lacked creativity upfront, and as a result, they have just three goals from as many matches. The forward duo of Petar Sliskovic and Rahim Alineed must step up this evening to pose any kind of a threat. Comparatively, their defense has fared better but will be put to test in this contest. Chennaiyin FC will bank on the experience of midfielders such as Julius Duker and Anirudh Thapa. Who will it be to emerge victorious and secure their second victory of the Hero ISL 2022–23 season?
Friday night action!
The Hero ISL action continues as East Bengal FC host Chennaiyin FC at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata. East Bengal FC come into this game on the back of a 2-0 defeat at the hands of ATK Mohun Bagan, while Chennaiyin FC too lost 2-0 against FC Goa in their last outing. As things stand, East Bengal FC is placed ninth in the standings with one win from four matches, whereas Chennaiyin FC currently sit sixth with one win and a draw from three matches. The last time these two sides met in the Hero ISL 2021-22, it ended 2-2 at the Tilak Maidan Stadium. Will we have a winner this time around?
